I would be ineterested to know how many have taken up the £20 per month subscription.
Personally I cannot afford it and so now only bet on ATR meetings so I can watch them.
Am I alone??
August 21, 2009 at 02:45 #245061I have to pay for ATR.
I think it runs me 15US Dollars–
Now this is the Amazing thing–Since I have given up on US racing as a full time Deal & know spot play-I am saving about 65Dollars.
How or Why-You Blokes supply the info that the idiots in the US Racing Scene Charge for..
Health Allowing I should be in England for a spell next year-My Good friend & I made plans–(if I’m well) He lives in Chippenham–try to make it to some tracks.
Be Well!!
August 21, 2009 at 04:49 #245075I have subscribed because it still offers value to me, although obviously less value than when part of Setanta.
Out of curiosity, has anyone been able to view the live streaming from the RUK website, which they claim you get included in the £20? I just keep getting the same page telling me my access is denied and telling me to log in again (even though I already have logged in).
August 21, 2009 at 09:57 #245082I will probably stay with it.
I don’t think I can cope with going back to watching Channel 4 and the occasional gig that the BBC turns up for.

August 21, 2009 at 16:46 #245139£20 is too expensive. What they should do…and surely it cant be difficult to do, is introduce daily subscription rates. If they introduced a daily subscription of say £2.50 per day then people can choose when and when not to watch. I work monday to friday and can only watch live action at the weekend….why would I waste £20 a month to see 2 days worth of action per week (assuming there is an RUK meeting every weekend day)? If there was a daily subscription I might subscribe 4 times a month bringing in £10 for Racing UK. Surely others are in the same boat as me?
I understand they probably want the money up front for investment purposes (or maybe they are just poor business people). In football you can choose to buy a season ticket or you can attend individual matches. Surely there is room for both?
Obviously without knowledge of there budgeting figures and forecasts its hard to know if they are making a horlicks of it or not.

It’s free-to-air until 4pm; today and tomorrow.

There is another way – probably the one I’ll take – pay 20p per race to watch the non-terrrestrial races on RP online. That allows up to 25 races per weekend before the cost evens out.

Same here. I couldn’t do without Racing UK it would drive me insane so I have subscribed. I agree the subscription charge is expensive though.
August 21, 2009 at 17:57 #245158I consider £20 a month, to keep Nick Luck in the lifestyle to which he has become accustomed, a small price to pay.
August 21, 2009 at 20:55 #245188As probably the only idiot in the country who paid Setanta annually in advance I am promised from the Racing UK website that my service will continue until my sub expires in Nov 09.
Fat chance, got cut of yesterday and today at 4pm like everyone else.
Have emailed RUK and wait response – probably on 18 November!
August 22, 2009 at 02:42 #245237I was told that Sky cut off all viewing cards that were issued for Setanta/RUK subs (as opposed to Sky cards that had those channels added, if you see what I mean).
If that’s the case you’ll need a new viewing card, so don’t wait for a reply to your e-mail, get on the phone to them.
Why they couldn’t tell people this in advance, rather than wait for it to happen, you tell me. I mean they have got a television channel to announce that kind of information on.
August 22, 2009 at 03:16 #245240I couldn’t live without Racing UK, even though I only really watch it for the jumps action and wonder whether they could do a jumps only package from the beginning of October until what I still call the Whitbreal Gold Cup meeting at Sandown.
August 22, 2009 at 03:18 #245241meant to say Whitbread Gold Cup at Sandown.
August 22, 2009 at 11:02 #245252I paid a year in advance to Setanta last October and, as of yesterday evening, am still getting pictures with no problems, so I’d question whether all Setanta subscibers have been switched off.
Which is not to say that the switch over hasn’t been badly handled and it does appear that RUK have simply taken over the totally hopeless Setanta call centre, rather than set up something of their own.
I will resubscribe as I believe that by watching the racing, I am sure to see something that I would otherwise miss that will provide a winning bet. That only has to happen once per year to pay the fee.

August 22, 2009 at 12:08 #245256I’d question whether all Setanta subscibers have been switched off.
Just to be clear, I wasn’t suggesting all had. Only those who, in effect, had subscribed without also subscribing to a Sky package.
And obviously I don’t know whether that’s true or not. I’m just passing on what I was told when I rang them.
August 22, 2009 at 12:11 #245257Bit of a shambles, innit?

Not a ‘package’ as such but the small print states there is no annual contract and providing two months’ notice is given subscriptions can be cancelled/suspended as and when you want. At least that’s what I assume but will check prior to subscribing again.
In all likelihood I will be subscribing from 1st October – 31st May. May rather than April because Aintree, Cartmel, Huntingdon, Ludlow, Wetherby and Wincanton hold meetings then.
