Looks like being alot better than last years race, which speaking from heindsight wasn’t good at all. Anyway things are alot more clearer now having being cut down to 22 at this stage for this years renewal.
Anyway onto selections. I couldn’t decide between Midas Touch(1 point) and Jan Vermeer(2 points), so i took em both at 20.
They both look talented indivdials, and when they met at Gowran Park, Jan Vermeer was very impressive giving away weight to the whole field, and young O’Brien was even claiming 7 for MT.
Happy hunting.
October 19, 2009 at 21:52 #254324Has to be ST Nicholas Abbey.Has been impressive on his starts and i said he win this race on his way to the Derby next year.Classy horse he is
October 19, 2009 at 22:09 #254329Yeah he’s a good un Darren. He’s one of my ante posts for next years derby, before his last run. His price is short though, and i was looking for something at a higher price. Do you think he will definetly run ?
Last years RP trophy had very little quality in hindsight. I wonder how many of the short priced horses will actually run.
October 19, 2009 at 22:12 #254330I am pretty sure he run in this is the number one horse for the Derby next year at Ballydoyle. so i say he is sure to run.Why do you think he might not turn up.
October 19, 2009 at 23:03 #254343I didn’t say i don’t think he would turn up. I asked if you think he will turn up. I just wonder how many of the market leaders will run.
I really hope Jan Vermeer turns up. I feel he could run well.
Looks like St Nicholas/Santa will run, i just hope JV does as well. Knowing my luck he probably won’t.
October 19, 2009 at 23:39 #254355elusive pimpernells a superstar and next years derby winner in my view looks like being a great race i like al zir too but think elusive might be too good
October 20, 2009 at 00:09 #254361Elusive Pimpernel’s form looks the strongest going into this and it’s hard to see him not being suited by the step up in trip. John Dunlop’s horses still holding their form. Only concern is the possibility of slower ground than he’s previously raced on.
October 20, 2009 at 01:19 #254371The thing with EP he has looked flat footed in his races only then to run on again. While he may do this again on saturday he will leave it to late will not be able to catch those in front.
October 20, 2009 at 01:22 #254372Jan Vermeer apparently goes for one of the Criteriums.

There’s rain forecast every day this week in Doncaster, so the ground is likely to be good at best.
Elusive Pimpernel certainly shouldn’t have any problem handling an easier surface and is an obvious starting point, but Al Zir and Musaafer (who was hellishly impressive last time) also appeal.
Musaafer
at 20/1 will suffice for now, though I appreciate that he may set the race up for either of the two mentioned above.

Wouldn’t dream of opposing St Nick. Only worry is he stands on an AOB stone as 9/4 looks very big no matter what else runs. The big question is do you or don’t you? He’ll be no better than 5/4 if he turns up and Ill be amazed if he doesn’t win with ease………..smashing horse!

If he’s still anything like that price when the NRNB concession kicks in (hopefully the ground will soften also) I’d be interested in having a few quid on.
October 22, 2009 at 10:13 #254736Damn i never knew that none of the two i backed had no intention of turning up. Zarkava told me yesterday they were being targetted at France. I never read up about it and none of the other sites mentioned that O’brien said it, apart from Sporting Life.
I really rate Jan Vermeer aswell. Oh well sh*t happens.
October 22, 2009 at 12:31 #254763Will be opposing the Beresford winners for O’Brien NTO as always – lay of St Nicholas Abbey, seldom does a good O’Brien horse win the Beresford.
Going to side with Dancing David for a trainer who seems to do very well with his 2yos
October 22, 2009 at 14:16 #254780I agree that O’Brien’s record in this with his Beresford runners has been pretty poor. But I think Eagle Mountain and Septimus did enough to be classed as at least ‘good’.
If Dancing David wins, my mum will be aghast that I didn’t back it, ‘Why not with a name like that?’!!
October 22, 2009 at 15:38 #254790Been known to do a bit of dancing then DJ?
October 22, 2009 at 17:48 #254805Cant see where they get 2/1 for the Ballydoyle horse. He beat nothing in his maiden and beat exposed average 2yo’s by not much in a very slow time in the Beresford. True he’s all potential but very short on what he’s achieved on a racecourse so far.
Elusive Pimpernel is right in this on his Acomb win but 4/1 is probably about right given the unknowns on a softer surface. Would be no surprise if he won this though.
I like Shakespearean. Similar level of form to the Dunlop horse through Buzzword who subsequently beat Siyouni in the Prix La Rochette. He’s tough, experienced, gallops forever and should have no problem with the Doncaster mile. He ran over 2.5 seconds faster than Saint Nicholas Abbey at the Curragh. Very decent price at 14/1.
