Usually enjoy simply watching these races, but as highlighted by Salselon last night Ibn Khaldun does look a good price at 5/1
The difficulty is the O’Brien runners. Would be interesting to know how they are rated
But IK has that little bit more experience and goes on the ground and obviously the stable are going very well too
October 25, 2007 at 13:45 #121350I was very taken by Frozen Fire’s debut performance as he looked green but once he got the message won going away.. Be interesting to see jockey bookings but if I was looking for one to oppose Ibn Khaldun with he would be the one..
October 25, 2007 at 13:50 #121352I had liked the look of Confront for this and I wonder if it’s significant Stoute is sending Tajaaweed instead. That horse along with the O’Brien runners couldn’t be given a prayer on form but they have pedigrees and connections that suggest they are much better than they have shown so far.

It must be a bit of a pointer to ALMAJD in the Horris Hill that Richard Hills has chosen to go to Newbury to ride that one rather than Doncaster to ride Tajaaweed in the Racing Post Trophy.
October 27, 2007 at 14:48 #121675That was rather good
October 27, 2007 at 14:55 #121677Very nice. Pedigree screams mile but I’m sure they’ll try him in the Derby anyway.

..indeed.

I’m hoping Ibn Khaldun will romp home at Ascot and then go onto the Racing Post Trophy, and that Rio de la Plata, New Approach and Raven’s Pass will burn each other out in the Dewhurst and not train on, so that the former will be Godolphin’s choice for the 2000 Guineas, as I backed him before he ran at 130 and 140’s, and I want a run for my money

…does this mean I should lay it off?
October 27, 2007 at 15:27 #121680Great call UM.
October 27, 2007 at 15:56 #121685Well done
UMLay it off.
October 27, 2007 at 16:07 #121686Thank you very much David, and CR.
I’ve only had a few pounds on at those prices, anything more than a tenner and I would faint…lolI’ve never laid a bet before so I’ve no idea what I’m doing or whether it’s worth it – maybe I should wait see if the price contracts during the winter, which I think it will.
Going to Dubai does not fill me with confidence.

roll on may.October 28, 2007 at 17:47 #121917do people still have vouchers? and no I’m not selling.
Aidan O’Brien doesn’t have much to look forward to in the 3 year old division for next year does he? all getting turned over right left and centre.
October 29, 2007 at 11:05 #122090hi TC [you do realise I’m going to end up calling you Top Cat…lol]
yes an interesting card at Leopardstown today, seems a bit odd for a Monday…not quite used to that…

that gr. 3 race should shed some light onto O’Brien’s prospects but I think he will have to come up with something a lot better than Footstepsinthesand [christ what a name to type…lol], if he’s going to win next years Guineas, which looks quite hot at this stage, don’t you think?
anyway, something to get our teeth into today and maybe we’ll see how good, or not so good, Jupiter Pluvius really is

Interesting Group 3 race at The Curragh today. Great Rumpuscat, half-brother to Rumplestiltskin, and Jupiter Pluvius run, with the latter the mount of Heffernan. Should JP win, he will have had exactly the same 2yo campaign as Footstepsinthesand. Famous Name also an extremely interesting prospect.
One of the races of the season for juveniles IMO, especially since I fancy the Guineas winner to be one of the three I’ve mentioned...so do you still think it’s one of these 3?
hope you’ll catch up later..
