Pretty desperate, isn’t it?
As someone who used to work in IT, it looks to me as though they’ve made two basic errors:
1. The business and systems analysts let the designers come up with an arty-farty design, and then tried to get the functionality to fit into it.
2. They haven’t allowed enough time for the testing phases, there’s clearly been no stress testing carried out at all. I imagine the design and development phases overran and so they decided to compress whatever testing they could do into whatever time was left over (a classic blunder) – not very much by the look of things.
I’d guess that they’ve used the old "V-model", or "waterfall", development methodology which can sometimes lead to unpleasant surprises at the last moment – like not having enough, or powerful enough, servers and similar "environmental" oversights.

Me too, Venusian:
1. Employing Mongolian yak-herders to design it.
2. Thinking anyone would fork over any actual, real, money to access it.It’s a classic case of a product being rushed to market, to meet a milestone imposed by a half-wit who has no concept of brand value, or customer expectation.
I can think of about 300 people from my old work who might have been involved.
December 2, 2008 at 23:30 #193893All I can say is what a load of cr*p.
Never seen anything more difficult to navigate from what it was originally
A true shame
December 2, 2008 at 23:42 #193898whenever i try to get a look at the form or something else,it automatically starts to load without success.did anyone discover the same?…
December 2, 2008 at 23:44 #193899Firefox
Thanks. I shall be adding my two pennyworth. A decent site replaced by one which is, in my experience so far, literally unusable.
December 2, 2008 at 23:57 #193901If you think it is hard work using the site manually try writing software to do it automatically – nightmare
December 3, 2008 at 00:12 #193902Anyone know which software company came up with this steaming heap of doos?
I’ll hazard a guess at NIIT or TATA.
December 3, 2008 at 00:43 #193909Unbelievably slow and I couldn’t open the entries screen when looking at a particular horse today – it just whirled round and round thinking about it for ages and I lost patience.
December 3, 2008 at 01:35 #193924……… and it crashed this afternoon
December 3, 2008 at 02:05 #193933Tried using the link given earlier to e-mail my thoughts to them however my e-mail was returned undelivered.
They cannot even get that right.
December 3, 2008 at 02:20 #193938Oh dear,
I really have tried, but afraid I have to add my voice to the majority here.
Final straw was clicking on the 12.40 Hereford result today.
What do I see? "No runners found".
The analysis is there, so I am able to do a Sherlock and deduce that Pret A Thou won. Well, words like ‘easy success’ help..
A shocking shambles I am afraid.
Also, as a subscriber to RFI, even when and if they sort it out, I can’t see myself wanting to pay for the premium content. RFI uses the same race analysis as the Post anyway, I think.
December 3, 2008 at 02:42 #193943Cheers Ethan, message sent lets hope it works now
December 3, 2008 at 02:43 #193944Is everybody that is using the site logging in?
I’ve just used, past results and the database for the last hour and no problems at all. It’s as fast as the old site and the navigation when you get used to it seems better.
As mentioned earlier, I’m on Firefox have downloaded the ad-blocker and blocked all the ‘frames’ & ‘ads’ and its working fine.
I should mention I know **** all about computers. Maybe I just got luckly.
December 3, 2008 at 03:45 #193951My brother ‘phoned me today to tell me how slow it was running for him but it’s as fast as ever for me. The new layout will take a bit of getting used to but I’m sure I’ll be able to find my way round after a few tries. There’s obviusly an issue for certain users but no doubt they will be ironed out before the RP starts charging
December 3, 2008 at 04:12 #193953Maybe this is a cunning plan because I, for one(and I suspect hundreds like me) would at this moment happily pay a tenner a month to have the old site back!
December 3, 2008 at 05:16 #193971As my favourite code is flat (turf) my betting on horses is on hold at the moment in favour of footie and the NBA so I don’t need the new site but I am not impressed with what I have seen of it.
