Optimist of the year?
December 10, 2008 at 12:47 #195828The site has been taken down "temporarily" while they put in a new release.

Having looked at the ‘new release’, the only change I can see is they’ve gone back to signing in.
It remains a p*ss-poor substitute for the old site.December 10, 2008 at 13:51 #195836Rubbish when it comes to being user friendly.
Read the PDF version of the paper yesterday – one of the adverts has insight into a Mike De Kock horse and says there’s more on the website. I had to search the horses name for the news archive to find the damn story!
December 10, 2008 at 14:02 #195837I can’t understand why now on the equivalent of the old cuttings library you can only search within a period of a year as it may otherwise produce ‘too many results’.
What if you are not entriely sure of the dates you are trying to search??

It remains a p*ss-poor substitute for the old site.I would echo those sentiments
December 10, 2008 at 17:42 #195886Message on the ATR site to its users:
"Dear User,
attheraces.com has attracted a significant number of new users over the last two weeks and many have made suggestions as to how we can further develop our website.
Customer feedback of this nature is extremely important to us and we want to let you know that we now have a scheduled programme of new developments on our site over the next two weeks and into the New Year.
The new developments suggested by you, our users, will be gradually introduced onto the site rather than released in one go. The means we can make them available to users at the earliest moment.
Many of the new developments will be minor. Today, for example, we’ve changed our form pop-up to show draw position in the career history – which appears in brackets after the result – rather than requiring the user to access the full result. Collectively, we hope that the developments will make a big difference to all our 570,000 monthly unique users.
To suggest developments of your own, use the Contact Us form and select Website Feedback.
Many thanks for your support in 2008.

At The Races"Clearly people are talking with their feet (or mouse clicks) as to their thoughts on the new RP site and taking their business elsewhere…
Excellent to see ATR reacting to this and building on their already good site to attract even more people.
December 10, 2008 at 18:17 #195890I sent an email this morning asking where do I look for sales information concerning foals by stallion figures (only yearlings available or all I could find). Received this in response:
"We regret that many users have experienced difficulties logging into racingpost.com as well as performance issues using the website over the past couple of days. Racing Post Customer Services "
I received this yesterday which at least seems to indicate they are dealing, or trying to deal with individual enquiries. They did get my gender wrong however, but I’ll let it go this time.
"Dear Mr._____________,Thank you very much for your feedback. Hopefully the following will help you with your query in relation to racingpost.com:
Foal Sales figure analysis by sire – Go to bloodstock menu, select stallion book, link, use stallion book search to find stallion, click stallion link to display stallion page, select sales tab from lower set of tabs, set date range, select foals from drop down, click filter results button.
We are very grateful for your continued patience and would like to reassure you that we are totally committed to producing an outstanding website that you can enjoy using.
Thanks again for contacting us."December 10, 2008 at 18:36 #195895Even allowing for teething troubles and having to get used to a new layout and presentation I still think the standard racecards on the new RP site are just about the worst I have seen.
Didn’t any one tell the RP about crystal clear English where it’s easier to read things that are all on the same line. Instead they seem to have put things where there is a vacant space so we have items double decked and even triple decked in the case of the racecard number, form figures and draw number.
They should take a look at their own at a glance cards which are a much better proposition except there is a lack of even the basic info that appears in a daily newspaper.
I had to laugh at the video tour when the chap was demonstrating how easy it is to navigate from racecard to racecard. The navigation gets harder with each reincarnation of the web site. Just having the racecard opening in a new window that the user closes when finished seems an easy way as any.
December 10, 2008 at 19:53 #195903My big gripe is…. On the old site the Future Races function allowed you to list all races over the next 30 days…..a mouseover function would also give you the distance without having to click on individual races.
The new site is hopeless.
December 10, 2008 at 20:03 #195906Why are the RPR and Topspeed ratings for each race no longer displayed when viewing a horse’s career record. They were there yesterday. Honestly, this is such a frustrating site to use now. Oh for the old site!
December 10, 2008 at 20:06 #195907Just realised that I now have to log in in order to see them.
December 10, 2008 at 20:32 #195911On logging in I get the pop-up message:
Website Certified by an Unknown Authority
and then a lot of guff about examining the certificate and contacting webmasters
Does accepting this certificate either ‘temporarily for this session’ or ‘permanently’ pose any security risks?

It really is atrocious.
I’m no computer whizz, but I reckon any sixth-form could come up with a more presentable website.
Just looking at tomorrow’s Peterborough Chase card, I knew MWDZ runs (courtesy of TRF) but had hell of a job finding him from their racecard. How any supposedly professional operation deems it ok to have a ‘standard’ card with only part of the horse’s names on just beggars belief.
Looking at another couple of forums, it seems the great majority are as enamoured as I am yet, 10 days in, it is very much the dog’s breakfast it was on its first day.
Surely they can’t continue with abomination much longer?December 10, 2008 at 21:20 #195933The at-a-glance cards don’t show C,D wins nor days since last run which is an annoying omission for those who aren’t keen on the glare of jockeys colours on the standard cards
At least his latest tweak has resulted in significantly faster loading
Must say I’m glad this shiny new RP isn’t my source of ratings, form and data as it remains a pain to negotiate.
Looking on the bright side, doubt they’d dare start charging as things stand so best try and enjoy this extended period of free access.
December 10, 2008 at 21:57 #195945My main gripe is that you use to be able to hold your cursor over the title of a race and the distance of that race would pop up. Very convenient if like me you prefer longer distance races. But now you have to actually go into the card in order to determine the distance of the race.
The damn thing wasn’t broke so why fix it?

Similar thing with Cresswell Willow in the 2:00 Ludlow. Willow appears hidden behind some options buttons on the Standard card and just Cresswell on the at-a-glance card
