Old website for me, the new one is a complete mess.
December 3, 2008 at 12:52 #193993Should there not be a third option "Too Soon To Say"
There is always resistance when a format one is used to is changed – it takes people out of their comfort zone. I would suggest there were as many protests when the RP site changed to the format everyone is now defending so strongly.
Yes there will be teething problems and people will not like having to navigate new layouts but I would expect in six weeks time most people would have completely forgotten about the old RP site.
FWIW I "prefer" the old site but only because I have become used to it and I could navigate my way around without having to consciously think about it. With the new site I have to seek things out but I am sure in a week or two it will again be second nature.
One of the advantages, for me, of these revamps is it makes you think about what you use the site for – how much of the browsing is out of habit? How much do you really need to use? Also having to navigate around a new site you may find nuggets you didn not realise existed.
December 3, 2008 at 12:59 #193994I agree with Paul on this one.
The main problem is that the New Website has been brought on line without being properly tested. I have some issues with the layout, but woul presumably get used to it given. The main thing wrong at the moment is that it doesn’t work, and this is a point I have made in two e-mails to the Racing Post.
This is not the first poll posted here that has given us a choice between black and white rather than offering grey as an alternative.

.Spot on, much of it on here
December 3, 2008 at 14:55 #194023Paul has it right. Give it time and keep providing feedback. It was the same when BF changed their interface. I’m sure they’ll get it right in the end. The only long term worry I’d have is the speed issue with all those stupid applets.
December 3, 2008 at 15:07 #194025If its not broken why fix it ??
Its rubbish

An insult to all racing fans.
December 3, 2008 at 15:45 #194039The old site is a million times better. The new one is awful.
December 3, 2008 at 15:45 #194040As the site is so slow when I tried it and I can’t even log in today it is impossible to say if I prefer it or not though it does seem overburdened with flashy stuff. What I can say is so far the implementation of the new site is a complete bodge. One thing I did notice is it appears you can only view the card of today’s meetings or at least I couldn’t find cards for future meetings.
I think the SL site will be getting a lot more visitors.
December 3, 2008 at 16:28 #194052There is a lot about I do not like but am prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt until the wrinkles are ironed out.
My biggest gripe are the racecards billed as revolutionary/innovative. They just seem to have dumped a lot of the info that was available on the old cards in exchange for user being able to do some fancy sorting of the new cards, (though I can’t think of a use for that feature yet.)
I still think they should have kept the old site going until this one was running smoothly.
I seem to remember Betfair having a major site revamp a few years ago, and the whole process was pretty transparent with the user not feeling as if they were logging into something completely different. I also seem to recall that the old site was available for a while to cover any glitches in the new one.
December 3, 2008 at 16:47 #194058As the new site does not work for me – either too slow or unable to log on – and certain features are not working properly, I do not consider the site to be a site at all.
December 3, 2008 at 17:39 #194069I am not bothered about the layout changes, as has been said you can soon find your way around. But, to put up a site that simply does not work is a disgrace. Surely they have to put the old site back up whilst they sort out the mess.
December 3, 2008 at 17:45 #194074I’m all for change, improvements, and keeping an open mind. But the old site’s great, the new one is shite.
December 3, 2008 at 18:14 #194087Won’t load the racecards for me today- the applet thingies are a crock of sh*te
December 3, 2008 at 18:18 #194089Results archive seems to have disappeared. Shocking for those of us who attempt to use it to follow international racing.
December 3, 2008 at 18:21 #194090I agree with the brigadier on this one. And without being too critical, given Paul’s profession it would be hard for him as a journalist who may one day be sitting in front of the RP Editor being interviewed, to be overly critical of the new website.
I find that a grossly offensive comment Firefox and ask that you retract it.
If something is worthy of criticism then I criticise it and I do not care who I offend in the process.
My comments were based on having previously worked in IT for almost 30 years and knowing full well the issues involved in implementing a major system change.
BTW I have never worked for the RP nor do I have any intention of working for the RP at any point in the future.
