Is there a hint of criticism of the lovely Claire in that post?
Don’t think we can have that on here runandskip.

June 16, 2009 at 18:11 #234347God, that was pathetic. Very clever zooming in on Scenic Blast 1/2f out when it was obvious Fleeting Spirit was coming with a big run. They never learn, ffs.
June 16, 2009 at 19:52 #234391The BBC do not care abour Racing, i frankly do not care about the BBC. They are a utter joke. You only have to look who they have on as "experts"…
John Parrot…I realise this man likes a bet like any of us, but is he seriously the best that can be put on to read out the prices.
Rishi Persad…I used to like this bloke, but the BBC seem to have told him to play the "clown". His stupid interviews are a insult, half the trainers don’t even want to speak to him.
Willie Carson…Ive never liked this bloke, he talks alot of ……. and is a ignorant and rude man.
Only saving grace for the BBC is the great Clare Balding, but sadly even she can not save the sinking ship.
The coverage of the actual racing meeting is a joke, 2-3 minutes before the off they start talking about the race, constant fashion talk is enough to make me sick. And that other clown they have to mix with the crowd on race days. All in all the usual BBC coverage you get.
But oh wait the best is still to come, one name…….JIM MCGRATH. Is this guy on another planet when calling the races home. Are his pictures on delay?
How often does he call the wrong horses, how often does he not mention a horse flying home till it’s about 10 yards from winning line. How often does he fail to notice a major incident in a race, how often does he not notice a horse falling till a fence or two later when someone tells him. This guy does my nut in, he is seriously one of the worse race callers ever.
Rant over.
Great unbiased opinion from someone named after a rival channel
June 16, 2009 at 20:29 #234400The pieces from the betting ring are quite possibly the worst stuff I have seen in a long time – I prefer the fashion segments to that drivel
June 16, 2009 at 20:34 #234402‘What’s a monkey?’
‘An animal in a zoo’
Bye bye BBC!
June 16, 2009 at 21:03 #234407The lack of showing the horses, particularly in the paddock is criminal imo. It’s all flaming double acts talking in front of the camera, we even had a double act calling the 4.55 race, dreadful stuff.
June 16, 2009 at 23:35 #234446I didn’t see the races today as I had to work. I hope to catch some races later this week. I hope your comments here don’t discourage me to watch it.

I can see why they would annoy some but I can’t help thinking that despite my expectations Gary Wilshire is adding a bit of something to the beeb coverage he definitely has TV ability IMO much more so than Barry Dennis for example and I am no casual observer, but he needs to avoid the inaccurate exagerations as referred to in an earlier post here.
What doesn’t work for me is Ian Bartlett and Kevin Darley doing a dissection of the race on their plasma tv after each race = very dull I’m afraid. When given the chance Bartlett is a good commentator and good interviewer but he is very dull presenting to camera IMO.
Fashion presenter is a just a ten a penny catty old queen who could never be as funny or cutting as he thinks he is and as such it is quite amusing watching him trying to shoe horn in his tired spontaneous unoriginal bitchy comments that he spontaneously thought up hours before.
June 17, 2009 at 17:40 #234658STOP ZOOMING IN ON THE HORSE IN FRONT. PLEASE. YOU ARE RUINING RACES YOU STUPID DIRECTOR.
June 17, 2009 at 18:04 #234663Speaking of balls-ups – Watching a replay of the last at Ascot yesterday gave me a laugh. Right at the very end of the replay, apparently somebody hurt themselves. Scroll down on the link, turn up the volume and have a listen….
June 17, 2009 at 19:51 #234701I have to agree the bbc coverage really is awful i know they want to aim the coverage at the once a year punter but there is no need to present it in such a childish dumbed down version. i dont want to see willie carson and ronnie corbett running up and down a plank of wood i want to see the 15 horses in the parade ring thank you.
The presenters are a joke. rishi persad and his abysmall post race interviews please for the love of god ask the trainer a decent question and not about the colour of there tie.
Then uv got jim mcgrath and his commentating my favourite from yesterday being " and theres the crowd in the background" lovley im not blind and this aint radio im more intrested in the horses on that grass strip plus whos this panel of experts that give the horses them stars cuz thats another jokeAnd im not gonna get started on laurel and hardy in the betting ring how can they employ a man who said at the grand national meeting dont back anything on this page cuz it cant win yet two of em finished in the first five.
If they want to attract new people to racing a few more stable visits a proper look at the horses close up with a decent bunch of experts and a better commentater and betting expert.June 17, 2009 at 19:53 #234703Your comment don’t sound promising. Really to bad that the BBC is treating the races like that. It is only once a year for Ascot, so why not make the best of it.
June 17, 2009 at 20:17 #234713dont know where they got all the names for that petition from.
June 17, 2009 at 20:39 #234725Well. I thoroughly enjoyed todays coverage of Royal Ascot, and I’m looking forward to tomorrow. Think the BBC did really well.
June 17, 2009 at 22:13 #234758^^^ very much agree. Loved it today especially the fashion items. Did you see when Suzy Perry and the other lady caught a gust of wind that blew up their dresses to reveal their knickers? lol!!!!!!!… she handled it brilliantly too and we saw some good male models for a change wearing some snappy outfits, and I’d love to know how Wilnelia Forsyth manages to look so darn good

I think the coverage is aimed at the middle aged woman and much less so for the gambler, the licence fee doesn’t cover that sort of thing I’m afraid

mind you I backed Jealous Again, so that’s my aftertiming for the day done and dusted.
June 17, 2009 at 22:23 #234762I was laughing at Willia Carson when he said Scenic Blast was an ugly horse because of the whiteness on his face. I guess the purists on here would’ve been raging. I personally like horses with white faces as i think they look great !
As soon as he said it i thought of people posting on this board.June 17, 2009 at 22:37 #234766Agree about seeing Suzy Perrys Knickers, now that is worth the license fee and would have been worth double if she hadnt had any on in the first place, if had been Clare then we would have been demanding a refund.
James Sherwood is still a smug, pretensious TW@T but it would not be Royal Ascot without one.
The BBC do a good job as they have to cater for racing fans plus those who watch it as they like to look at fashion and celeb spot, If Channel 4 had it then we would be subject to endless adverts,Big Mac looking at various sizes of boobs,Thommo going to the posh areas with a camera crew getting on their nerves and Nick Luck who you can bet so wants to be their instead of being the voiceover for Thirsk.
