Biggest certainty of the week runs here for me, highbury, ill wait until he drifts out since ryans sided with illinois, but this looks like a scatter to sort some 3yos out in the obrien pecking order, this wont be beaten, hopefully get 5/1, ill be steaming in e/w if i can get 5/1 +
Was hoping he’d go to the irish derby, but should get a price here because ryans abandoned him
June 18, 2024 at 22:03 #1698515This looks between three on potential staying power, ground and ability.
No surprise though; it’s Illinois, Highbury and Birdman.I’ve backed the former and saved on the other two.
Shame for me Grosvenor Square has come out though, as he was part of what was making them good bets. But good decision by Coolmore as he could’ve come to harm on that ground.
Might think about changing who the main bet and savers are between the three.
Value Is EverythingJune 19, 2024 at 01:21 #1698529Using the skybet cashback offer to back ILLINOIS, would be aghast if he didn’t finish in the top 4, albeit still needs to prove at the trip. Form line reads incredibly well, Ambiente Friendly with a classy Derby effort and behind was Meydaan who picked up a listed win next time.
Backed HIGHBURY as a saver as being a Gooner that would really hurt if I didn’t. I suppose I’ll have to back him in every race then.June 19, 2024 at 10:25 #1698565Highbury ew
June 19, 2024 at 11:50 #1698590Birdman for me at 11-2
June 19, 2024 at 12:05 #1698605I’ll try Mina Rashid 18-1 ew.
June 19, 2024 at 13:26 #1698642Surprised to see the support for The Equator. I backed him last time, and the same jock gave him a shocker. He was very awkward getting away, and you wouldn’t have thought a wide draw was ideal. Interesting to see if we see a different horse, and a different ride. I expected him to go forward last time.
June 19, 2024 at 14:08 #1698655The Equator was slowly away, it is something that can happen and Coolmore knew they were going to make the running at a good pace. So being out the back should not ordinarily have been a disadvantage. However, The Equator needs a race as long as his name to be effective. He’s slow. So can understand why he’s been backed. Has form that isn’t far behind Highbury. I thought about backing him myself, but has so far raced only on a soft surface and his pronounced obvious rounded action puts me off on this ground. That said, if he does act on it has an obvious chance.

Settled well in the truly run Lingfield Derby Trial, but at Goodwood last time out in a slowly run 1m4f was plenty free enough… Which suggests to me he won’t like the slower pace. Will need to settle a lot better here over the longer trip. Maybe the bigger field will help?
