George is a non-runner guys.
September 26, 2007 at 10:06 #116506Thats a pity. any reasons given?
September 26, 2007 at 12:45 #116535A meeting is thought to be taking place at Ballydoyle this afternoon after which a decision is expected to be announced by trainer Aidan O’Brien as to whether last year’s Queen Elizabeth II Stakes winner takes his place.
Not an injury then…
So whats is it? Will we ever know?
September 26, 2007 at 13:15 #116537I reckon its because he’ll probably get stuffed by his stablemate Excellent Art…. Second best 3yo miler of the season – I thought he was unlucky not to beat Ramonti in the sussex although I know people will disagree..
He will be my bet on saturday. I like him a lot…
September 26, 2007 at 13:48 #116541Any news yet – is the horse ok for starters??

Depends on whether you count being ridden by Frank Spencer as bad luck…

From RP
O’Brien all but ruled out his number one candidate from the mile showpiece, although he left the door ajar should anything amiss befall his two other runners. However, by Wednesday afternoon Johnny Murtagh, who was due to ride George Washington, had already been booked by James Fanshawe to ride Cheveley Park’s contender, Cesare.
“George probably won’t run,â€September 28, 2007 at 07:30 #116850“There is no problem with George”
WTF?
If his last race was a “prep”, why’s he not running in the race he was prepped for?
Sniff, sniff … is that bullsh1t I smell?
Steve
September 28, 2007 at 09:43 #116879I think this weeks developments have clearly knocked back any idea that the moulin was a "prep"
I can understand why they want to get a grp 1 win behind Excellent art, but you would think that for once they could not run horses for the grey accountants and perhaps enjoy the sport a bit.
Theres always something special about a horse defending a top prize and this is being swerved simply to produce a few quid on a no doubt very healthy balance sheet
September 28, 2007 at 11:10 #116916Clive,
He’s already got a G1 win (St James Palace) and should probably have at least one more under his belt (French Guineas – See flagships comments for that one!). I still think that they’ve probably worked the horses and eiher George is throwing his toys out of the pram or Excellent Art is just a better horse.. Probably both to be honest.. The Champion stakes looks an easier option for the batty one.
September 28, 2007 at 11:20 #116920More than any other organistation Coolmore run their horses against each other. Time and time again we see other operations avoid running against each other….numerous occasions were it not for Coolmore/Ballydoyle running their horses against each other it would leave the races cut up badly. Even Godolphin and Stoute don’t do it so often.
Not suggesting it is purely for sporting reasons that they clash but clash they certainly do…just not in this case.
September 28, 2007 at 11:35 #116926Ahhh…yes Aragon…forgot about that.
It could be the temperament issue of course but isnt he always like that and how will you know what he will be like on any given day?
The Champions can be a soft 10f group one but it strikes me as an afterthought
Aidan. Bit harsh on Godolphin that and also you could have chosen a better season to come up with that one!
Surely Ballydoyle run horses "with" each other eather than "against"
September 28, 2007 at 11:45 #116928Not just this season…Dubawi and Shamardal come to mind. Never ever were they going to clash…trainer said it himself.
I certainly though the clashes of Hawk Wing, High Chaparral, Rock Of Gibraltar, Landseer, Footstepsinthesand, Oratario etc brought plenty to their individual races.
September 28, 2007 at 11:58 #116931Im talking about this season for trumpeting Ballydoyles competitiveness within races…..
September 28, 2007 at 12:01 #116932Were it not for the Ballydoyle horses taking each other on…The English and Irish Derbys would have been 3 runner affairs. Their top milers all competed against stablemates in all the Guineas. The St James Palace Stakes saw a cracking finish between 3 stablemates.
Please point out “all these racesâ€
September 28, 2007 at 12:05 #116933Soldier Of Fortune wasn’t trying to beat his stablemate (favourite and Fallons mount) Eagle Mountain in the Irish Derby?
Your comments are based on Magnum Cum Laude’s run and possibly Betfair chat about Scorpion and Yeats in the Irish Leger.
