Good to see a really solid card at Chepstow tomorrow, though sadly can’t squeeze into Channel 4’s marathon effort.
I do like the course: a genuine stamina test for all races and nowhere to hide on that long run-in. Horses need guts and heart to win especially on the normally-prevelant soft ground.
Proper jump racing!

October 26, 2014 at 10:58 #493516Apart from the sad loss of Timesremembered at Aintree (poor Emma Lavelle seems to have had the worst of luck in recent seasons), it was a splendid afternoon of jumping.
Aubusson was the one who stood out most for me and will make a cracking staying chaser when his time comes.
October 26, 2014 at 11:26 #493522There was too much quality racing cluttered into the afternoon for me. Didn’t know which race was which, should be savouring some of these races rather them being produced in a rat a tat fashion every 5 mins.
October 26, 2014 at 14:45 #493535Who’s the joker that planned Chepstow to go off 5mins before aintree all afternoon? Given that Chepstow can’t run on time,it was obvious that races would clase but despite this wasent wishful thinking fantastic
October 26, 2014 at 19:28 #493550I assume Lizzie Kelly is somehow related to Nick Williams or the owners of the horse as with a professional jockey on, Aubusson would surely have won.
She struggled earlier on in the week on Tea for Two who must be some horse as he still managed to win with Lizzie on.
The owners and trainer have the choice who they put up but no disresepct to Lizzie she cannot ride them again in races surely and I know she rode Aubusson succesfully last season but how good the horse could be with professional handling is anyone’s guess.
Tea for Two looked some horse as well, one for the futureOctober 27, 2014 at 11:26 #493586I assume Lizzie Kelly is somehow related to Nick Williams
Lizzie is Nick’s stepdaughter. As with Chester Williams (Nick and Jane’s own son), seen in action at Chepstow on the same day, she’ll get her share of rides as race conditions or trainer preference dictates. Jane Williams owns Aubusson, so there’s no owners to appease with rider bookings in this instance.
Lizzie’s ride on Aubusson wasn’t actually a million miles removed from that of the gelding’s British debut over the same C&D last December, albeit in that instance mowing through the last when challenging the leader proved no bar to going on to win. Not an error horse and rider could get away with in rather better company at the weekend, though.
I’m not sure if I’m minded to think that Aubusson’s jumping under maximum pressure is a perennial cause for concern, given it seemed to hold up alright (again under Kelly) at Cheltenham last January, but it’s certainly something to be wary of.
