Couldn’t be having Twist Magic at any price. Still fresh in my memory PN saying he thought he was more of an Aintree horse just before he ran in 2008 and never tried a leg from 4 out. Wen’t to Ireland was backed off the boards and reversed the form by miles with Schindlers. With Master Minded a possible non runner I suppose they might give it a crack this year as he could with luck get the trip, him being a bit older now, but I can’t see it. If Master Minded turns up fit and well no doubt TW will have a run round again but be kept for Ireland or Sandown again.
No Master Minded I’d be very keen on Kalahari King. Big Zeb jumping is dodgy as we all know and Paddydeplasterer is too in and out.
Love to see Ferdy win it.
January 15, 2010 at 21:58 #270142I’ve had a nibble on VPU for this. Huge price for a former winner, just had him matched at 40. I’ve also cheekily put up a couple of quid at daft prices if anyone fancies matching it?!
If he turns up in the Game Spirit next month, I can see him running a huge race, which will surely commit AK to the Champion rather than the Ryanair – especially if Master Minded doesnt turn up.
Come on Alan, let him regain his crown!!

A broken rib is hardly ‘a serious injury’ – it’s rarely even bandaged in human beings, and allowed to heal naturally in 6/8 weeks normally – and unlike a tendon, has no long-term side effects. Masterminded wouldn’t be back in training unless they were satisfied he was completely over the problem and, even without a race, they’ve plenty of time to do whatever’s necessary before the Festival.
Given his clear superiority in this division, I doubt you’ll even sniff odds-against come the day, whether he runs before or not.
Voy Por Ustedes won’t have won a top 2 mile race for 3 years come March (it was a poor QMCC, even then), and has long since lost the speed in any case. 40/1 would be about right for him even running in my view, despite his trainer’s annual ebullience about his chance.January 16, 2010 at 08:45 #270174I think Voy Por would struggle around 2 miles these days. In my opinion he should be tried over 3 miles again. He ran well for a long time in the Lexus before the ground took its toll. He aint getting any younger and The Gold Cup on decent ground would suit him at this stage of his career. He could fill the 3rd spot behind the Nicholls pair….
January 22, 2010 at 23:25 #271525Petit Robin for me. I can’t see Master Minded making it to the Festival and for me Henderson’s charge is definitely the best of the best.

Zarkava, what have you been up to lately, busy with Dalakhani and Sea the stars? Not heard from you for some time!
February 6, 2010 at 09:36 #274327A few rumours around that Forpadydeplaster has picked up an injury and could miss te festival. Starting to drift on the exchanges now.

Confirmed by Racing Post ten minutes ago
I feel it’s highly likely that Sizing Europe will now be re-routed to the QMCC
February 6, 2010 at 11:42 #274367What has Forpady got to do with SE running?
SE’s hardly a ‘certainty’ for the Arkle so why should he suddenly switch to this more demanding race.
February 6, 2010 at 15:37 #274417Not sure why there wasn’t too many superlatives from the CH4 team following Kalahari King’s win there, that was impressive, very impressive.
Top weight, very soft ground, so long off the track, excellent performance!!!

He was impressive – I don’t need Channel 4 to tell me that – but the bookmakers haven’t wasted time in acknowledging the fact. If you are not already on I don’t think it worth scrapping to get on at 6/1.
February 6, 2010 at 15:45 #274421I wasnt on stilvi, simply as i didnt know how he would run today, especially after Ferdy said in the week that he would be ‘fit to run, but not fit enough to win’.
6/1 is a fair price for the horse in my opinion.

It’s a decent price I agree. Of the main rivals to MM at least we know this one acts on the track.

Well I hope those Twist Macic fans took heed. I feel heart sorry for anyone who jumped on that band wagon.
I’d have to agree 6/1 is a fair price. It was a very good performance from Kalahari King but in all honesty he won because of his ability to travel well and the opposition weight or not was so poor his class seen him come through without coming under any pressure. That said he will come on from that no end but my worry is will he be able to travel so sweetly for so long in the QMCC? The way he was catching FPDP in last years Arkle suggests he’ll have no problem getting up the hill but whether he has the toe to catch Master Minded is another story.
Ruby reckons Master Minded wasn’t right last year and he may well be right but why? The big question with him is has he done too much too soon? Back to his best there’s only one horse who can possibly beat him IMO and that’s Big Zeb.
Big Zeb travels every but as well as Kalahari King but he has IMO a slightly better turn of foot. Make no mistake he would have beaten Master Minded easily last April if he hadn’t walked through the second last.
He was foot perfect last time out so hopefully he’ll do the same at Chetenham. If he does I think he’ll win which has me wondering what the hell do I do now.
I’ve backed Master Minded in doubles and trebles but he run first I would love to see Ferdy win the the race cos I think he’s one of the nicest guys on the planet but my head tells me Big Zeb will win
I’m confused, think I’ll go to bed now
February 6, 2010 at 20:21 #274505Thje whole picture will change is Sizing Europe runs in QMCC

Don’t know much for a Cheltenham specialist do you? Honestly mate why would you think he would even consider it now? The only reason it came up was because Master Minded might not make it and the only reason he would go ahead with that plan is if something goes wrong between now and then.
To be honest I don’t think the horse has a hope in hell of winning the Arkle let alone the QMCC. He’s got a a fatastically high cruising speed but he’s never shown a turn of foot off it in any race since he was a novice hurdler. He made his name in the AIG but on reflection he cruised to victory against Hardy Eustace who by that time couldn’t catch the cold once he’d been passed. He did beat Big Zeb over hurdles but he’s a differnt horse to way back then.
If just can’t see him cruising his way round in the QMCC then finding what it will take to beat horses like MM KK and BZ……Captain Cee Bee wouldn’t be near his peak at Leoprdstwown and would have eaten him alive but for falling.
