Some amazing races coming up in the second half of this season
Backed the French Derby winner Almanzor for this E/W @25’s
French horses seem to have a great record in this race and the stable seems full of potential stars Zelzal, La Cressonniere & Qemah.
Probably not a stronger Derby than Epsom overall with maybe the second horse Zarak being a possible G1 horse, but after looking at the replay he won very comfortably and may progress further.
August 14, 2016 at 20:15 #1259803Interesting race in France tomorrow Prix Gontaut-biron Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes Group 2
French Derby First and second along with Ultra from the Fabre stable.
Trainer of Almanzour has stated that he will be a better horse on better ground than he faced in the French Derby so looking for a good performance from him

Good card at Deauville today. Former Guineas contenders Antonoe and Trixia are both on a mission to restart their careers in a group 3 and New Bay tries to kick his season off after vanishing in the mud behind A Shin Hikari in a race where nothing else got into it. Several from that race have bounced back and this is probably already last chance saloon for New Bay in making himself a realistic Arc contender.
I have done Trixia and Almanzor today at 10/1 and 5/1.
I don’t think Trixia ran to her best last time. The Royer Dupre stable were struggling and she missed her original target. She has not been seen since and the stable are in better form this past few weeks. She looked a filly with a terrific turn of foot last year and she is worth a chance at 10/1 surely.
2.25 Deauville Trixia 10/1
3.00 Deauville Almanzor 5/1Two singles and a double.
New Bay is 1/2 Fav so no point backing him.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 15, 2016 at 12:08 #1259851Missed the 5-1 Almanzor which was a great price Steve. Had to make do with 7/2

The jockey has said:-
“I’ll be riding to win and, while it’s officially a Group 2, if we can do it, it will be like winning a Group 1 with this field. He’s been in Deauville since the beginning of the month, so it was Christophe who rode him in his last piece of work on Tuesday. He told me Almanzor was magnificent and really flew with La Cressonniere and Tareef.”

August 15, 2016 at 16:36 #1259886Great result for you there Steve with both coming in.
Popped into a Ladbrokes to watch the race but they did not show it. I later checked the odds for the Champion stakes and saw that he had been cut down to 10-1 and knew he had won.
Does anyone have a link to the replay?
Looks like Irish champion next stop.

I thought for a moment that Zarak had stolen first march but Almanzor picked up and finished off the better of the two. Nice run from Royal Artillery, I thought he would be swallowed up but he did keep on well for third.
Earlier, Trixia left it late. She pulled a bit hard and looked to have plenty to do from where she was, her head went up very high a couple of times but she finished off well to snatch it. I think she was value for a little more and if settling better, closer to the pace, she can build on this.
I felt Racing Bets were way off the mark with their odds of 5/1 and 10/1 on these two today. It’s been a good year for me in France and this was highly welcome.
Someone has to show Liz Price how it should be done

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 15, 2016 at 17:39 #1259898Nice one, Steve. You’re having a fine French season right enough

Thanks Joe, I had to wait 4 months for Trixia to reappear but it was worth it.
I think a lot of people forgot that Trixia was backed confidently when 7/4 Fav to beat Qemah, but she was only 4th. Royer-Dupre was out of form at that stage but has got the show back on the road it seems.
Jean-Claude Rouget needs no introduction but it seems punters still prefer Fabre. I was surprised Ultra was favourite here after being beaten at short odds last time, and the French Derby winner sitting available at 5/1

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 19, 2016 at 11:20 #1264040Almanzor confirmed for the Champion

Jean-Claude Rouget has confirmed that Almanzor will run in the QIPCO Champion Stakes at Ascot on October 15.
Over the weekend Rouget told the Paris Turf, which is France’s equivalent of the Racing Post, that his brilliant colt would be heading for Champions Day in preference to the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe 13 days earlier.
He said the only way that Almanzor might possibly be redirected to the Arc is if La Cressonniere, his unbeaten stablemate who is in the same ownership and being aimed at the race, suffered a setback in the interim.

Good news there, makes me confident on my La Cressonniere antepost bet.
Best Wishes

Just checked ” Rouget stressed plans for his star colt Almanzor, winner of the Irish Champion Stakes, would not change, and he will still be aimed at the Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot on October 15.
He said: “Almanzor will not run. He will go to Ascot.”
September 30, 2016 at 08:20 #1265165Added a bet @25’s on the exchanges on Found.

Wish he trained over the jumps
October 11, 2016 at 10:01 #1266653If you look at the champion day card this year there are a number of horses that have been on the go all season.
Found, Minding, Almanzour, Limato, Quiet Reflection, Galileo Gold just to name a few have had a lot of racing. That’s not to say they can’t win, but they are priced up as if they are bound to reproduce their form and I’m not sure that’s the case. They are also very short because the public have seen them winning all these races. For that reason I am looking for horses that are that bit fresher and look like they’ve actually been aimed at this meeting rather than running here as an afterthought.
I notice Khalid Abdullah as an owner has a fantastic record in this race. That fact alone makes midterm at around 20-1 very interesting. He’s also not had a lot of runs so is coming in under the radar.
I also would give Jack Hobbs a squeak as he goes well fresh but it must be a leap of faith given he was pulled up last time.
Anyway selection is MIDTERM 20-1
October 13, 2016 at 21:38 #1266927I’m echoing to an extent what judge has already stated, but it’s also what I think.
This might look like a match between ALMANZOR and FOUND, and it may well work out like
that as they are undoubtably both at the top of their form. If there is a chink, it’s
that it’s late in the season, and both have had some pretty tough races. Found in particular,
having had 8 runs, the last of which only gives her 2 weeks to be spot on for this, could
be the most vulnerable. There’s no doubting she is brilliant and does always try her heart out,
but is it a bridge too far? As good as she is, she has a habit of finding one too good, whether
by bad luck or otherwise. I would be taking her on.Almanzor, from his 20/1 win in the Prix Du Jockey Club in June, has done nothing but improve.
He showed some turn of foot winning the Irish Champion Stakes from Found last month. That was a tough
race, both horses giving there all at the finish. He may have recovered well but I just wonder how
much it has taken out of him. This is his 6th race this season, and that’s a lot for a 3 year old when
he’s been taking on those in the top flight. There’s a bit of a risk about this, but JACK HOBBS is a seriously good horse who has
run at the top level. He was good enough for 2nd in the Derby last year and then won the Irish version,
even if it may have been not the greatest renewal of that one. Nonetheless, if John Gosden has got him
fit and well after nearly 6 months off, he has an excellent chance here. Judge mentioned he was pulled
up in that run at Newmarket in April, but it was subsequently discovered that he had suffered a stress
fracture to his pelvis. I don’t think Gosden would risk him in a race like this if he wasn’t ready, and
if he has improved from 3 to 4 he would be hard to beat. I think 14/1 E/W is a really decent bet. - AuthorPosts
