Hi All
Just noticed that Punjabi is being quoted for next years Arkle.
Has anyone any info on whether he is going novice chasing ?
If he is then he seems to be overpriced to me. He is available at 33s whereas, for example, Celestial Halo is around 10sSeptember 20, 2010 at 20:27 #318511alright mate, yeah i heard this too but the likely plan is for him to be kept hurdling. medermit and celestial halo are likely to be the only notable recruits to fences from last years champion hurdle.

Well he’s being schooled over fences and he did show signs that his speed is deserting him a bit winning only one race last season.
If anything the hurdling world is getting tougher with Binocular, who was still a baby when Punjabi beat him, going the right way. Hurricane Fly proved he’s lost none of his ability and in reality where Cheltenham and hurdling is concerned it’s a bit of a lost cause for Punjabi these days.
Bends his back like a chaser and there’s no better place to learn how to jump fences than at Seven Barrows.
If he does take to fences and I’m sure he will then if Nicky Henderson is Nicky Henderson he will be thinking about winning the Arkle with him and not trying to turn the clock back over hurdles.
October 15, 2010 at 12:03 #322514Just read the Nicky Henderson article confirming that he has schooled over fences well, and is going novice chasing. For once I am pleased with my antepost bet at 33s. I still can’t believe that the bookies still have him at 25s despite Mr Henderson confirming that he is going chasing.
I agree with you mate that he arches well and should make a chaser.
Thats him jinxed now, lolOctober 15, 2010 at 13:16 #322521To me it seemed Punjabi retained his speed last season, often seen travelling powerfully when others were under pressure. He tended to find little – much unlike the horse who stayed on up the hill in Katchit’s year or the one who overcame the brutal pace in his own championship season.
I am suspicious of his attitude now.
