He was below par at Cheltenham and there surely was a reason, but the hill is not it for me.
If you don’t stay up the hill at Chelt, you don’t stay up the hill at Leop which isn’t much less testing, with 1.5fs more to run. Could be the overall layout of the track he might not take too, or he was below par with travelling etc. Many reasons.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!April 27, 2021 at 20:51 #1538245RP race report says Envoi was examined by vets after the race at the stewards request and found to be lame.
April 27, 2021 at 20:51 #1538246I hope they adopt similar aggressive tactics on Chacun at Cheltenham next March.
Means Shishkin gets a nice lead to the last.
April 27, 2021 at 21:04 #1538247Thanks! And WD all other winners as well.
Tomorrow:
4:50 Blue Sarri 2/1
5:20 Tellmesomethinggirl 13/2
5:55 Kemboy 9/2
6:30 O’Toole 25/1 EW
7:00 Embittered 8/1 EWBlue Sarri showed a bit of his class at Cheltenham, he should win if has retained his ability. In the 3m novice I’ll stick with a mare again. The allowance seems too generous these days and she was a impressive winner of the mares novice hurlde, I think she is a big price. In the Gold Cup I think Kemboy might once again prove he is better in Ireland then England and win this again. O’Toole might get placed at a big price in the bumper and finally Embittered in the big handicap chase. Unlucky at Cheltenham, but he could get his revenge.
April 27, 2021 at 21:18 #1538249Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly does being ‘lame’ mean? Pulled muscle? Limping, pending further investigation?
BUY THE SUN
April 27, 2021 at 21:21 #1538251An injury TTC, with more details when available. That’s my interpretation anyway.
April 27, 2021 at 21:33 #1538253The mares races suit the lower level fillies as they find it hard to beat the boys even with the 7lbs allowance
April 27, 2021 at 23:14 #1538261Worrying how many horses are slipping on the flat too, seems ground has gone dicey with the bit of rain they’ve had.
I thought it must have rained a bit when I saw the slip ups on the XC- a bit of rain on top of good to firm ground makes it like an ice rink, the course is twisty and I don’t think you’re allowed studs in races (lest your horse stomp on the face of a fallen jockey) that you could use eventing or showjumping. The hurdles and chase courses have been watered all along so should be OK.
I’m rather glad Tiger Roll hasn’t been declared for the La Touche, those banks are a different beast to Cheltenham XC which is wee buns by comparison.
April 27, 2021 at 23:17 #1538262Loved it VTC, glad he did that again, was clear he ran way below his best at chelt, the bunch finish etc, probably about a stone below, largely down to a change in tactics for me, after the ryanair youd have laughed if you said a horse could put allaho out his comfort zone in a gallop, but he did, regardless of cheltenham and shiskin and whatever, hes IMO by some distance the best horse in training as of now, will likely be given that officially next week, laughed at them again today
Allaho would have won the CC given his running today, so its harsh to say hes better over further, ill be surprised if hes best at 3m+ now, minella indo/ABP etc would not have finished 2nd in that race today, looks an out n out ryanair horse.
I did laugh at the rp comments about CPS being weak in his races at the finish
Monkfish nearly unseating cost him
The race, colreevy is some mare though, envoi lame or not,has to go back to gordons, acted up pre chelt, hasnt been the same since the switch for whatever reason.Echoes in rain looks a tool, 5yo? Has to be the CH route next season. Could be anything.
Will be on the kilcruit train tomorrow, stronger pace tomorrow and he wont lose, if its tactical he will. Ones a 2 miler ones a 3 miler, both top class.
Melon for the GC/will be laying CDO until im blue in the face.
And back on dunvegan again
Best meeting of the season by a mile.
April 27, 2021 at 23:42 #1538269Its a good meeting but definitely not the best
Far too many bumpers and handicaps
A nice way to see the season come to an end with some fascinating head 2 heads, not great betting races but good to watch
Got my flat head on now which is very much showing in my jumps picks atm
Kemboy 6s
Galopin des champs 3s
Embittered 8s e/wMy 3 plays tomorrow
Took some 40s on GDC to win and to win any race at Cheltenham too so really hoping he backs up the Martin pipe run.
April 28, 2021 at 00:10 #1538273Did Appreciate It not go because they knew they would win the 2m novice anyway, so no point? Radio silence from the stable as to the reason. I wonder if he could be aiming for the French Champion Hurdle? I know it’s over 3m and he’s a novice but he’s 7 years old, he’s not a babe in arms. Willie likes to have a go at the race but has nothing else really suitable for it this year. L’Autonomie has returned to form but proved in the autumn that she is not invincible so it must be tempting. If it doesn’t work out, a nice rest over the summer and plan next year.
April 28, 2021 at 06:21 #1538280Ham sorry I love CPS but he,s not the best horse in training , they may well have gotten the tactics wrong but the really good horses win despite this , if they go head to head shiskin has the speed to sit behind him then come the hill he,ll just go past him , ask yourself this can you see CPS winning at 2.4 or 3 , I tell you one thing though I look forward to watching it
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
April 28, 2021 at 10:16 #1538286Well lads,
Been a while since i’ve been here, couldn’t remember my login for the last 2 years or whatever it was and found this old laptop and it still had the login saved, so im back as long as it allows
.
Few fancies for today.3.40 Oscar Thyne:
A lot was expected of this horse early on but has been very disappointing up until his last run when winning a beginners chase despite a few sketchy jumps, he tanked through the race and jockey was clearly confident as he covered a lot more ground than the rest of the field, goes back over hurdles so i suspect they think his mark is there to be exploited and he is only 6 so could still be plenty to come if they’ve found the key.
5.55 Melon
A horse i haven’t been a huge fan of over the years but have warmed to him this season. Pulled up with about 3 fences to go at Cheltenham in the Ryanair and might arrive here relatively fresh.
Fakir and CDO both running at Aintree, Al boum having a tough race in the Gold cup so im weary of each of them not running to their best and i don’t think easy game is good enough. Kemboy ran in the Gold cup but didnt have as tough a finish as ABP but i think himself and Melon are closely enough matched and Melon is 3 times the price so hell do for me.7.00 Thatsy
An odd looking pick you might think but this horse has a handicap rating of 136 over hurdles in Ireland and ran off 139 in Champion hurdle last year where he looked like he wanted further. Disappointing over fences this year but best run was at this course over a similar trip to todays when hammered by Colreevy but only a few lengths behind The Big dog having been hampered. Big Dog is rated 145 now and this boy gets in off a featherweight off a mark of 129. Jumped nicely last time after a break over 2 mile and that could have him spot on for his first handicap chase, mark looks like it could turn out very lenient.
7.35 Mollys glory
Won on first start for yard in her 4th bumper, form worked out from that with 2nd and 3rd winning since. Was 2nd by 1 and 3/4 lengths to Party Central last time. Party Central was beaten a neck by Grandee prior to that but was a little unlucky i felt. On a line through that form id have Mollys glory reasonably closely matched with Grandee but Grandee is biggest price 11/10 and MG 10/1. Seems a fair ew price.
April 28, 2021 at 10:22 #1538288Another good card today. I’m on Isotope at 18s ew in the first. I will probably add Takarengo closer to the time purely due to the hype and glowing comments immediately after his last race, when finally losing his maiden tag over hurdles at the 13th time of asking (he’s only 5 but has had more starts under Rules than any of the participants in the gold cup later today)
Donn McClean: “At no stage in the race was he travelling like the winner”
Fran Berry: “He doesn’t make ground at any of his hurdles”
His trainer: “…hates jumping….Hurdling really isn’t for him but if the owner (Mrs Rita Byrne) wants he’ll run at Punchestown”
Got to love such emphatic belief in the horse, I don’t know why he hasn’t been backed down to odds on.
I’ll also put an ew on Rightplacerighttime as I once lambed ewes for his owner/trainer. Form study schmorm study. It’s the end of term right?
April 28, 2021 at 10:23 #1538289Losing doesnt mean a horse isnt the best in training… shishkins not unbeaten… the very best dont fall? there formline and there OR decide whos the best and bar one blip cps is the best for me personally, at this point currently shiskin is still rated inferior and beaten inferior rivals, look im not blind the Engine is there with shiskin and he could very well beat CPS, but he still has to come into open company, much the same as footpad did in previous years, (im not comparing footpad and shishkin just the novice chase campaign) just because you look like a machine in novice races doesnt mean you will be in open
Not to mention the handicapper will officially have cps as the best horse in training this time next week unless abp does something extraordinary today.
Why would i need to see him winning at 2m+? I dont get the question?
And ff thats just my opinion, the very best horses in training are facing off rather than attending the same meeting, thats enough for me, only one horse missing in tomorrows race and that would be the energumene shishkin clash, bar that, its the best vs the best all round pretty much, i find it hard to say cheltenham was a better meeting this season than punchestown ..
April 28, 2021 at 10:38 #1538291WB Fran- your now for me the best pundit in the business too (lol)!
I’m pretty strong on Galopin Des Champs today, put off by the price now, i do have a little antepost + in an antepost double, but nothing to scream about. Hope he wins. FF91, is that double still around for him to win here and any race?
Also on Kemboy today back at Punchestown, think he should be closer to fav given the C+D. Comes here a fresher horse than Clan. Clan beat trees the last day, other than that his form this season has been stinkin. My interpretation of the Aintree race was Clan didn’t necessarily perform to an amazing level like the ratings will have suggested, and he’ll have had a hard race- Nicholl’s knows the horse better than me and says he had an easy race, but i’d be shocked if he did. Wait for the excuse when he runs below par today.7.35, i backed Manisanda at Down Royal when a NR, then backed her again when 3rd. Backed her last night again at 20-1, i see literally every tipster i follow has tipped her now and she’s well punted.
Another for the race is Mi Lighthouse, i have taken 50s- she is from a yard that is very adept with their bumper horses and she’s disappointed as she’s been supported every time. Has a tongue tie, travels like a good horse and then stops. So for me, this better ground will suit her as i think she’s got a breathing issue. Also her half bro Lighthouse Warrier has done his winning on good ground.Twitter: Jackh1092
