So in case of a walkover there are no surplus prizes at all and the winner gets only first place prize money. What happens with the money that isn’t paid out? Does it stay in some pot for the same class of race next time or what?

In case that let’s say four runners are declared and only one finishes, the winner gets the prize money from first to fourth place, right?

I believe what you have said in your second paragraph is correct ERL.

I too would like to know the answer to your question re where any unpaid prize money goes. Especially as I don’t think all of it will have necessarily originated from the same source e.g. stakes, sponsor money etc.

Thanks Marlingford. So based on the second part of your reply, Taritino’s connections would have either bagged a pro-rata percentage of the unclaimed 5th/6th place prize money, or even better a straight quarter. Either way their declaration looks even more savvy.

As Swift Hawk was a non-runner, there were five declared runners at the off. Therefore I don’t think the sixth place prize money was payable.

But I believe Taritino would have received a quarter of the fifth place prize money made available by Peking Opera’s fall. This would be split equally between the four finishers.

Yes of course, thanks. So an extra £436 taking total prize money for a round of jumping to £4,800.
