I`ve been waiting for a proper going report as the draw could play a big part in this race, in the POMONE i would expect most horses to go through the ground, in this race we can eliminate about 1/3rd the field because they are confirmed fast ground horses!!
The going is described as very Soft!!
MARCHAND DÒR is proven on this ground,he`s won the race twice and the opposition is hardly frightening,if you want to find a negative its the draw, Box 14 means he`s going to start in the middle of the track,as they prefer racing around horses he will probably stay there, that could be a big problem as the normal track bias is to bag the rail if the going is soft, on the two occassions he`s won this the going was good thus winning from an outside draw was hardly an inconvenience, at odds of 5-4 i think he`s a bit too short and he`s a tempting lay!!
UTMOST RESPECT as a great start box,he will love this going and he did show himself to be in great form by winning from a poor draw at Newcastle, with only 10 races behind him he could improve further, trip should be perfect and i would expect a very good run!
US RANGER would be an alternative but he appears to have an attitude problem, when Laddies are big on an O Brien runner they are usually right thus i have enough negatives to leave him at current price!
ASTRONOMER ROYAL would prefer fast ground, i would have been tempted from a good start box if it came up good but thats not going to happen thus he`s a swerve!
GARNICA will like the ground and i would expect him to improve on what he`s shown this year, however, start box 15!!
JUMBAJUKIBA will try and front run so he might be able to offset a poor draw by taking a good position, still,im not convinced this will be his optimum trip!
TIZA is not the horse he once was!
BALTAZAARS GIFT might struggle to pick up in the ground but i wouldn`t want to lay him!
MARIOL could find this is optimum trip, the going wont concern him and from start box the 40-1 looks worth taking!
CONCLUSION
MARCHAND DOR as a favourites chance but im not sure he should be that type of price, i will take a chance with UTMOST RESPECT and back it up with a small e-way bet on MARIOL.
If i had 6 points to play with i would have 2 each way UTMOST RESPECT at the PMU price and 1 point each way MARIOL at VC Bet/SJ 40-1!

August 10, 2008 at 12:57 #176624Theirs nothing in their discussing this race……..how am i to guess what they call a big race?
August 10, 2008 at 13:20 #176630Then what you do, is put this thread in that forum, because this is a "big race" as such – it’s a Group 1, no?
August 10, 2008 at 13:32 #176631Cheers Ton. Agree with you about Upmost Respect under these conditions.
August 10, 2008 at 15:00 #176638Agree on mariol @40-1, he and Belliflore 125-1 (would need the pace to be hectic to figure but its not completely impossible) were the two I fancied just for a little interest keeper in the race.
August 10, 2008 at 16:54 #176642Bulwark…..Belefore was a good call especially if you could get the 125-1, he was 65-1 on the pmu and paid 9.20 a place!!
Utmost Respect was 4th at 58-1, would have paid 10-1 a place so we just missed out there!
Marchand dòr won easily enough and African Rose ran the race of her life to be a solid 2nd!!
Winner paid 2,60 on the PMU and 1,5 a place
August 10, 2008 at 17:38 #176645Only had a little speculative e/w Tony, got 125-1, she was readily available as 125-1 rank outsider for the race with most british bookies. I was happy enough with that because I didnt think was going to get any better with the PMU as you can’t really get better than rank outsider. Made up with that, I didnt get to see the race and just checked the result on sporting life and saw that she wasnt in the first two, then went for a lie down, try to shake off a hangover. So was happy to get up and see that.
I guess she’s proven clearly that just having a race run to suit, alone, can bring serious improvement, unless shes just been running below form on every start to date
.August 11, 2008 at 10:42 #176717Another very high head carriage for US Ranger – he just could not settle again and was exposed very quickly this time. I’m convinced he is a sprinter and being trained into one, but his effort is being absorbed by his attitude to racing. It’s disappointing.

You hit the nail on the head MDeering, I’ve backed US Ranger since it’s run at York in May, hoping every time that O’Brien could get the horse sorted out, after yesterday that’s it for me, saying that I see he’s got an entry at Newbury on the 16/8 in the group 2 Cga Hungerford stakes, if he runs maybe one last chance
