Actually just remembered that Duke of Marmalade improved because he had metal in his legs as a 3yo.
June 8, 2010 at 23:07 #299583What was ground last year in the arc.
And i am hoping we get good ground so Zenjah you bet not start a rain dance in October
June 9, 2010 at 09:37 #299611Sound of drums…
hey ya ya ya – Hi ya ya ya – hey ya ya ya…
I’ve already started Darren!

Yeah – the ground was ‘good’ enough for ‘Sea’ to run…
though we haven’t had a ‘real’ soft ground Arc for a while – never say never!
After all a beaten horse from the Dante was never meant to go & win a Derby was he?!
Some seem to think that all French horses need soft ground – I was just reiterating that the trainer feels that she needs good!

My comments on her are not a reflection of my views with regards to her ability.
This weekend will tell you all you need to know re: Dupre’s fillies and their pecking order…
June 9, 2010 at 14:17 #299656Fame And Glory not entered for the King George. Cavalryman or Dar Re Mi for that IMO.
June 9, 2010 at 22:25 #299738AOB has known for ages how good Fame is and he will be given a proper Arc prep. With Duke of Marmalade he couldn’t have a long range plan as he was relatively in the dark as to his true merit. Plus there was always the doubt about him staying 12f.
It’s more likely that Workforce won’t be given the proper prep for this and he is appalling value at present. Stoute has always enjoyed running his best middle distance colts over the summer and it is no coincidence that he has yet to train the winner of the Arc.

"AOB has known for ages how good Fame is"
"Fame And Glory not entered for the King George"
Says it all, imo.
June 10, 2010 at 07:33 #299766Exactly. The days when winning the King George was on a par with winning an Arc are well and truly gone.

Yep, it’s only Europe’s 2nd richest and most prestigious all-aged 12f race – why bother when he can strut his stuff in 2nd rate early season races?
June 10, 2010 at 11:37 #299792Because Ascot’s short straight would not suit the horse. I was all over him most of last year
and managed to get 16s for the Arc before his win at the Curragh but I would be strongly against him if he ran in the King George.July 24, 2010 at 16:06 #15732What a race in store.
Harbinger
Sariska
Fame and Glory
(all representing the 2009 3yr old generation)Behkadbad
Planteur(Representing the 2010 3yr old generation)
Wow what a cracking race in store?
Who do we fancy to win?
Do we believe Harbinger can run like that away from Ascot?
Hmmm
July 24, 2010 at 16:09 #308260Anyone know what St Nicholas Abbey is doing in the first week of October?!
July 24, 2010 at 16:11 #308261No plans as of yet

If Harbinger arrives in Paris capable of running within 6lb of his performance this afternoon, nothing will touch him. But the question (for me) isn’t whether he’ll win, it’s actually whether he’ll turn up.
If the race is a realistic target, I’d have absolutely no qualms about backing him at 2/1. As things stand, Sariska (16/1) appears to be the more sensible option in the hope that the ground is relatively easy.
July 24, 2010 at 18:21 #308340Sariska would be high on my list too AJ. If the ground’s soft Harbinger won’t get within 11 lengths of Cape Blanco, never mind infront of him. He probably wouldn’t even run on soft. If he can run 6lbs below today’s performance and win, I’ll be in a state of permanent shock! The likes of Fame And Glory, Sariska, Behkabad and Profound Beauty if she goes this route are a lot better than Cape Blanco.
July 24, 2010 at 18:29 #308344I’ve been backing Fame and Glory for this since before the Coronation Cup and added Planteur after the Grand Prix de Paris last week. The latter was given a poor ride that day and for me he has bundles of class and promise and will be given a proper prep for the race.

I’d take Profound Beauty to beat them all if she ran.
If The Arc was run at Leopardstown I’d have my house on her but I believe she’d have a serious chance at Longchamp, she’d get the going she loves, stayers have a very good record in the race, she’s got a serious set of gears for one that stays as well as she does and she’d have the best jockey in the field on board.
I’s high time Dermo Weld added an Arc to is trophy cupboard.July 24, 2010 at 18:39 #308357Well contrary to earlier thoughts, doubt Jan Vermeer really gets 12f.
Still fancy Dar Re Mi and Sariska at the prices.
