nah not hughsie, fallon.
October 3, 2011 at 08:21 #372814Quite simply del boy Fallon didn’t have a ride in the race because connections of all the runners either stuck with their normal riders or obtained the services of who they perceived to be the best option. Its simply a case of supply and demand i.e. less runners than jockeys available. Over the last few years Fallons record in top class races i.e. Group 1s is terrible.
As for criticising the ride on SYT I think it must be a bit of pocket talking mate. He had a wide draw and had to drop him in – on the day the horse simply wasn’t good enough.October 3, 2011 at 08:32 #372816Guilty as charged, yes, pocket talk but I’m going to say it anyway. Going by AOB’s unsmiling face and the number of jockeys Ballydoyle went through in the last few years I imagine it’s a pretty joyless place to work. I wonder if they miss JP Spencer and Johnny Murtagh.
October 3, 2011 at 08:36 #372817I agree with your sentiments entirely okjoe57, and find it a strange way to run such an operation
October 3, 2011 at 08:51 #372821I think heffernan rode So you Think beautifully under the conditions. They had 2 options either go forward or go back,so having decided to go back he threaded his way through the field very well.I think SYT is a bit more dour now,on what we saw i doubt he could have troubled the winner if ridden forward, but if in striking distance on the turn who knows. He was winding up well near the line, hard to judge the form line out of the race though. The winner given a beautiful run but proved far too good for them at the same time.
October 3, 2011 at 08:56 #372822Got to say heffers did a good ride given the horses impossible draw. If he had been drawn low and been able to drop in behind treasure beach there’s a good chance he would have won.
October 3, 2011 at 09:01 #372823Workforce goes better on soft tracks doesn’t he? Well there’s a reason for his poor performance.
My opinion for the Aussie was he was just too far back, pulled lengths off the majority of the field and held pace with the winner (who one person in this thread has already labelled the best middle distance horse in the world now ) from the top of the straight. In my opinion it was a very poor ride. The horse has great tactical speed that was not used at all in this race. Despite running 4th I’d forget about the run, he’s better than that. I honestly think he’s more a 1600-2000 horse anyway, although also think he has now proven he can run a decent 2400 too.
Wonder if they’ll retire him now? Or go on the the breeders cup?
Always a bad ride when they get beat Cast your mind back to where Zarkava came from when she won the race ridden hands and heels. So You Think was close enough if good enough he simply didn’t pick up like the wonder horse AOB would have you believe.
St Nicholas Abbey "could walk on water" "Duke of Marmalade is a machine" "Rip Van Winkle could be the best I have ever trained" Aiden thinks shed everytime he opens his mouth and to make it worse the media jump on the band wagon.
So You Think is a class horse but as suspected he’s no world beater. Would agree he’s probaly best at 10 furlong but if he ever meets Frankel he’ll need a paddle to get home.
He may well go to the Breeders but I’ve a feeling they’ll settle for unsuited by the trip, retire him and not risk further exposure
October 3, 2011 at 09:20 #372824I dont think you have to be Einstein to see So You Think ran the 12f out strongly.I dont think he should be comdemned to the retirement paddock on that run, under the circumstances both horse and rider did well. Hard to take anything away from the winner though, i think that everyone cant wait to see Frankel up against the best older horses and full credit if he beats them.
October 3, 2011 at 10:11 #372827I think the three fillies 1..2..3 had a false hormone boost by the sunshine, anyone who thinks I am talking bollox please speak up.

Aidan thinks all his horses are superhorses and all his jockeys are world class.Good for moral but bad for training.World superhorses don’t get beaten.Hello real world.October 3, 2011 at 12:33 #372843If an impossible draw why waste the horses with the good draw by running them as pacemakers for a horse with no chance from the draw? Please explain?Ashame about Treasure Beach, he deserved better.
October 3, 2011 at 12:55 #372845I imagine the reason Treasure Beach was used as a pacemaker is exactly because he had a legitimate chance of winning or finishing in the money. When the pacemaker is an obvious no hoper at 150/1, then all the jocks in the race ignore him, because they know he will come back to them. As it panned out, the jockeys were wise to what was going on and ended up ignoring Treasure Beach anyway, (maybe because he was ridden too far in front?). Look at Cape Blanco last year in the Irish CS. They let him get too far away and he didn’t come back. Or Presious Passion in the BC Turf a couple of years back.
October 3, 2011 at 13:18 #372846Off-topic but .. AOB still has 6 in the Dewhurst. Why is everything he does so complicated?
Over’n’out!
October 3, 2011 at 14:44 #372852the draw certainly didnt help, but it is kind of irrelevant when heffernan had most of the race to bring so you think more up front. isnt the whole discussion on racing about pocket talking if thats your theory? horse racing would be very bland if we cannot express ones opinion on something.
in regards to aob missing jockeys, i think they miss murtagh but not spencer. he couldnt handle the pressure of the stable jockey before.
October 3, 2011 at 15:01 #372853Someone had to go to make room for Joseph. That was and is the problem. I believe another son is on the way!Family seems to effect Aidan’s focus.Pity with all the money he gets.
October 3, 2011 at 15:22 #372856I think it is a great shame that just because we didn’t get the result the majority expected/wanted much of the talk is about horses who were trounced. Maybe they were just not as good as they were cracked up to be.
There was no fluke about the result. I would sooner take the result of a sixteen runner race run in record time at face value than any number of small field condition races with only one or two viable runners. The Arc is often the key middle distance Championship race and if you win it like Danedream then you have every right to be considered the best around.
I can only think of two three-year-olds of any note who didn’t line up – Pour Moi and Nathaniel. Pour Moi, for all his potential will always remain something of a mystery as you couldn’t possibly rate him very highly on the bare form of the Derby. Nathaniel was pulled out and it will be very interesting to see how he copes dropping back in trip on quicker ground – even if there was rain I personally think he would struggle to beat Cirrus Des Aigles.
October 3, 2011 at 15:37 #372857If Seamie rode So You Think as per instructions, which seems pretty obvious. then owner/trainer are to blame, if anyone, rather than someone who has done as his boss has asked.
Some of the decisions that emanate from Ballydoyle are curious, but if the owners were unhappy with their trainer then its up to them to express as much. We, as mere mortals, do not figure very high on their list of priorities in the Happiness Stakes.
