When I have time I will up a section of spreadsheet in the hope it will stimulate discussion and other people’s ideas can be scrutinised and tested.

I for one look forward to having a look at your spreadsheet.
When I return from my holiday I am going to finally start on compiling my own speed figures, only for the AW like yourself, and I intend to use the Dark Horse method as inspiration.

    Best Wishes

I would be interested in seeing your ratings based upon each horses LTO at an All Weather course to see if it changes the reflection of the race.

If I just used the LTO AW ratings of last night 6.20 at Wolverhampton the reflection of the race would have changed completely.
I just looked at the last 3 runs as Mr Beyer does, and just recorded the best rating.
I know that you should ignore what a horse has acheived on the turf when running on the AW, but it is the same with jumps horses when they improve 2 stone over fences and then run back over hurdles, they have to be backed.
That is the idea behind the spreadsheet, the horse noted have all improved on their last runs.

    Thanks you guys,
can you give us a brief description about the logic/steps for your rating methods?

Calmdownmate is top rated at actuary’s ratings and has +11 at bluesbrothers’ ratings so i think it deserves a small bet (just for start).

Before you can handicap, you must have acurate course/distance standard times.

Where can someone find "acurate" standard times? Maybe in a book?
What about RP standard times? OK ,free but acurate?

Weight and going must be incorporated in the equation. Then either Class Pars as per Mordin, Track Variance as per Beyer or Course Classification as per SOLIDUS.

"Course Classification as per SOLIDUS" , any more info ? I hear it for the first time.
Thanks you guys, as you see i’m at the beggining.

Hi Dices I have downloaded every result for all AW races in the UK and I intend to work out my own standard times using the winners time for each distance and class at each course.

I intend to work out my own standard times

I recently read somewhere that to create your own standard times you need to "be closed in a room with a bottle/s of whisky"
It involves great amount of time. It’s in my mind but not for the moment.
Basic things first. And better if i can find a "ready for use" set of standard times.

    By the way:

Calmdownmate is top rated at actuary’s ratings and has +11 at bluesbrothers’ ratings so i think it deserves a small bet (just for start).

Had a 2euro e/w bet (at 18.0 and 6.0 odds – betfair). It was a nice change since last days were loosing ones. There were only 10 more euro matched above the 6.00.
    Thanks guys

Modest day yesterday waiting for the one E.W. selection for the day

    Calmdownmate 3rd 10-1 took 14-1 earlier

Didn’t feel particular pleased with the jockeys efforts in the final strides and thought that he had been collared.

Today, based on the morning prices I will be considering

Shark Man 6.50 Kempton 12-1 as long as all 8 stay in

    Peters Gift 8.50 Kempton 12-1

For those intersted the rest of my ratings for Lingfield and Kempton are available on the link below.

There have been quiet a few posts since I last looked that I can help with especially speeding up the process of creating your ratings.

    Good Luck

This is an example on how I look at a race:

The top rated is Cape Royal (

he is rated +11 above his offical rating on my ratings, i.e. the figure before the jockey’s name.
The forecast horse would be Desperate Dan 77 +4 and with his Jockeys allowance
of (7) is the main danger.

How did New England, Listillo and Adage get on?

    New England 3rd 5-1
    Listillo 2nd 5-1
Adage I believe could be still running!!

Please understand at the time I put up my LIKELY selections I am using overnight tissues which are reknown for there inacurracy. It has been well documentes that unless I can get 10-1 or better the horse will go unbacked by me as was the case for New England. With Listillo I mentioned in my post there was a temptation for me to break my rule but after my post and further investigation became aware that Jamie Spencer’s one ride of the night at the meeting was on the fav. and that went unbacked. Again in the case of Adage 10-1 was never available.

Yesterday was another case in point. Shark Man and Peters Gift looked the most likely bets based upon the evening tissues.Shark Man, Peters Gift were both shorter than 10-1 and went unbacked. In the last race my top rated Chief Exec was 14-1 and was backed finishing second in a race it should have won. If you watch the race you will appreciated why I back E.W.

I am hoping to get there tonight as this is one of my local tracks (more of a social occasion) so will have a little wager on your selection.

Not sure what I am looking at on the lower list. Can you explain?

RacingSense standard times are the best I’ve come accross.

    Thanks for the link.
Just a question.I downloaded the software and spent little time with it.
    What i noticed:
I -somehow- entered in CREDENTIAL’s page with his previus races-results.
I nopticed that it had 3 previus races at Yarmouth at 1m2f21y and tried to calculate the stadard time for this track-distance.
    I came up with this:
Time elapsed – Time diff – StTm
    16/06/09 – 130.41 – 5.34 so StTm = 130.41-5.34=125.07
    28/05/09 – 127.34 – 2.32 so StTm = 127.34-2.32=125.02
    24/08/08 – 131.52 – 6.42 so StTm = 131.52-6.42=125.10

Small differeces at StTimes but should there be?

Found the book at around 30GBP do you believe it’s worth it?
