Where does this rank in order of the staying novices that Nicholls has so many of?
Personally I think Michel Le Bon could prove to be the best but there are the Barber horses, POD and others who will be amongst the yards best 3m novice chasers.
Whatever happens today hopefully the bookmakers wont quote ridiculous odds for the Sun Alliance like they did yesterday with Tataniano.
Who falls for this bookmaker rubbish?

Hasn’t Nicholls already said that Tataniano is his best novice?
From a personal point of view I’m keen to see how The Nightingale progresses, but with the other horses Nicholls has, and Diamond Harry, Bensalem, Pandorama, Punchestowns, Mikael D’Haguenet and Tazbar all switching from hurdles to fences, it’s going to be an immensely competitive season.
Ante-post betting on novice chases is going to be a minefield.
October 21, 2009 at 13:01 #254574The Nightingale is definately an interesting recruit.
Hasnt PFN said that Tataniano is his best 2m Nov Chaser? Not quite sure of the value of these comments because this time last year Black Jacari was AKs best Juvenile Hurdler!
October 21, 2009 at 13:23 #254577The Nightingale needs dropping in trip, imo – has the scope to make a top-class novice over a stiff 2m.
October 21, 2009 at 16:52 #254619I think you might be right Grasshopper if you look through the Dams side of the breeding you come up with 2 milers like Snow Drop who went on to win the Triumph Hurdle and more recently Springou Two – who although no great shakes was a 2mile or 2 mile 2f chase winner in France. I think he might have a little bit more of the dams emphasis than the sire who has had more stamina laden horses like Big Bucks.
He reminds me a bit of Fadalko who won the Scottish Champion Hurdle over two miles and then the 2m 4f Melling Chase before eventually trying (unsuccessfully) the Grand National!!
I think he will also appreciate genuine soft ground.
October 21, 2009 at 18:50 #254651The smile on Paul Nicholls’s face and the excitement in his voice when he talked about Gullible Gordon in Cheltenham last Friday left me in now doubt about what he thought.
He also had a good world for eighteentothirty.
October 21, 2009 at 19:59 #254663Was that Eighteentothirty or Aiteen Thirtythree, Cheltboy? Big fan of the last-named judged on pointing and bumper evidence to date.

October 21, 2009 at 20:57 #254682Sorry,the latter is the correct spelling. Yes, this could be a good thing.
October 21, 2009 at 21:18 #254690The form is probably worth little but he jumped impeccably today and had a lovely introduction- the 2 mile novice chase at Cheltenham’s November meeting looks a cracker if all the intendeds show….
Sorry, got my 2 milers and stayers mixed up. Looks like he misses a month or two with an injury in any case.

Gullible Gordon and Tataniano were more impressive.

What did he say mate? I am big on this Gullible Gordon, someone say Harry Findley didn’t think it was anything special but now this comment?
Could you try remember the interview please – thanks!
October 21, 2009 at 21:40 #254698In answer to a question about what made an average hurdler becoming a top class NChaser, he cited GG as a classic example of a horse that CAN JUMP. He was very animated when talking about GG cf wth other comments.

Paul Barber and all at the camp very glowing about GG. Shame I`ve already put in my 40 to follow. Although it does include POD and TAT
October 22, 2009 at 10:26 #254737I think they wasted a year with GG. Im sure they could have sent it Novice Chasing last year but with other novices in the yard decided to wait a year. Now he is up against an equally strong team of novice chasers from Ditcheat and beyond.
In both novice divisions this looks like being a vintage year for novices.
I cant wait to see Bensalem and Bakbenscher over fences.
