Back again for the thread that should be called the 50p frittering away thread.
Galway is always a good test of a chaser, the first 4 in the betting in the beginners are probably all starting mark fishing for the new novice handicaps at Cheltenham/ the Kim Muir (Patrick bound to demand a good one for this now he has to share with the professionals for the NH chase, and I expect he’ll be watching Sir Argus carefully).
In the following race Grandero Bello finally gets his ground and hopefully gets to the starting line.

    Galway
    1.30 Sa Majeste 10-3 win
    2.05 Grandero Bello 10-1 ew 4pl

Thanks VtC. Sa Majeste given a bit too much to do though still prob wouldn’t have won, the winner did it well. Mint Boy had a nice pop round and worth keeping an eye on.

Couldn’t believe Grandero Bello drifted and I had more on, a decent bet for me and the biggest winner I’ve had for a while.

Am about to break my “never back a bleeder” rule, and there are other reasons to prefer Inthepocket to my selection who couldn’t even win a P2P and jumped some hurdles at the business end of races quite horribly last season, but I was tempted by the price considering he is a G1 winner albeit a poor one, and has enough size to jump fences. I like Sam Ewing too.

Well there was a reason for the price difference! Farren Glory didn’t jump as well, but not badly enough to explain why the jockey was pushing while Inthepocket was cruising. I think I’ll steer clear of him in future.

Thanks VtC, I’ve put him in my TTF so hope it rains a bit before Newbury.

Barberstown Castle Chase at Naas today, Quilixios is unreliable but stable are in great form. Hercule du Seuil is not all that and I suspect Marine Nationale may not be either and might need the run.

    2.35 Naas Quilixios 7-2 b365

(Actually 4-1 with a boost but not everyone gets those)

He’s 100-1 for the QM Champion Chase so I put a few bob on ew as I expect the trainer might like some backup for Captain Guinness in this division.

He had everything his own way, as Hercule du Seuil was too keen and made a howler of an error, and Marine Nationale can’t jump (just a Flat rat? or a sore back- the high head carriage and uncomfortable twisting leaps suggest it- or both but anyway he hated it).

Don’t know if Quilixios can mix it with the big boys or not, but he certainly jumped quite nicely today.

Thanks, you can still get him at 50s for rhe QMCC whereas Marine Nationale is best price 16s

I like Jetara for the Lismullen hurdle, she’s fit and trip should suit.
At the same meeting, Down Memory Lane might be a bit of value for the beginners chase considering he was well thought of enough to go to Down Royal last year. Like a lot of Elliott horses he has the build of a chaser. Might need another half a mile but we’ll see.

    1.58 Nav Jetara 15-8
    2.20 Chel Imagine 7-1
3.08 Nav Down Memory Lane 4-1

First two no good but DML looked very good.

My Arkle fancy and my darling Westport Cove declared in same race tomorrow, both bonkers but fences should put manners on them. I love Westport Cove more but Mirazur West is probably better.

A good card at Punchestown tomorrow

    11.50 Fascile Mode 2-1
has good form, looked good winning his beginners
    11.20 Shannon Royale 6-1
jumped well last time out, just beaten by a race fit horse, think Dancing City will need the run
    12.50 Forty Coats evs
    decent, race fit
    1.20 Tareze 5-1
Placed form here, think has scope to improve

That’s it for bets but I’m also interested in Kitzbuhel with a view to a handicap mark, and might have an ew on French Hill if I have any winners before that as I follow that family

Show was over when Fascile Mode hammered the 4th last. Shannon Royale out to 10s in the next, perhaps because of the drying ground, but I thought it worth adding an ew.

Lol, Sam Ewing absolutely zero interest in using his race fit, stamina laden, safe jumping horse to make it a test for Dancing City, just a bit of arm flapping at the end for show. Anyway, I get my ew money and the horse is two thirds of the way to a mark for the NH chase at Cheltenham so everybody’s happy.

12.30 Naas Blizzard of Oz 8-1 ew b365

Finally gets to run over fences, looks like a chaser and I’m interested to see what he can do if he has grown into his frame.

2.18 Fai Lisnagar Fortune 10-1 ew

More fancied stable runners have the benefit of a chase start already but I’m looking forward to this one over fences, think he could be quite good.

Some quite interesting runners in this- would be interested in Antrim Coast and Harry des Ongrais over further in future, and of course there’s a special place in my heart for Westport Cove. I hope he, Mistergif and Lisnagar Fortune don’t light each other up or they’ll be burned to a crisp by the last half mile ;-)
