    Wetherby must be disappointed.

Their big day tomorrow, and how poorly supported has it been, by the great and good of jumps racing, the same crowd that flap and sqwak about prizemoney.

Three declared for the West Yorkshire Hurdle (prize fund 37 grand), only three in the novices chase, and just six for the valuable mares hurdle.

    Poor show imo.

I can’t understand that, always before they have had decent fields and the ground seems ok.

No wonder they want flat racing with such poor field sizes.

That is a shame. As you say, can’t complain about the prize money so where are the runners?

It sounds as if the real soft ground horses are going to Ireland. Also the quality of some of the races is so high it must have put some people off. At least I’m going; I think it’s Wetherby where I get a free pensioners cup of tea [or it might be Ludlow; or even both :) Even though there are only 3 runners in the big hurdle race I’m really looking foreward to seeing Cole Harden run.

Completely agree a disgraceful turnout, compare this to Ascot which is awash with runners though the quality is slightly lower. I don’t know what owners and trainers want sometimes…

I agree poor turnout but good quality racing.
Why have 3 big meetings (2 UK and 1 Ireland) on the same day.
    Seems like madness to me

TAPK will be there to sign autographs, that should add another 2 to the gate but more importantly I need to do a recce on

    Taquin du Seuil

and assess whether he’s a Gold cup horse or Ryanair sort.
Realistically for ‘Taquin’ to be taking the Gold route he actually needs to be within 2 lengths of both ‘Silviniaco’ and ‘The Bolster’ at the line and showing no signs of stopping. If he does win tomorrow he goes 10/1 joint fav with his stablemate

    Holywell

who really is a Gold cup sort. That race alone is worth the 200 mile round trip from this Ante-post punter.

Good to see Ascot get plenty of runners on their first days jumping and I hope it continues for the next meeting that clashes with haydock,as for the 3runner West Yorkshire hurdle,I’d rather watch that than the flat fare any day of the week.

The small field in the 3M hurdle reflects the lack of horses in that category at present. There were only ten runners in the World Hurdle back in March, and of those four were trained by Nicholls, two owned by JP and two trained in Ireland.

Of the Nicholls four, two have retired, one has switched to fences and the other one is running in a 3M hurdle this afternoon in France, as is Reve De Sivola. That race is worth about about £130k to the winner (4th place pays more than 1st place at Wetherby), and they get to race at level weights, so who can blame them.

Wetherby have one of the two JP horses, and the remaining active runner from the World Hurdle trained here in Medinas.

It’s just a weak division at present and I suspect we’ll see small fields at Newbury and Ascot in the next two races in the 3M hurdle program.

Good Post AP . been looking at FG website . 2 days at Auteil , 2.3 million in prize money , almost 1 million today over 7 races

8 euro admission , fair enough , but it must be asked , if you owned a good jumper , why would you go to Ascot or Wetherby when all this cash is up for grabs in France ??

Its really good stuff ….meanwhile back here , we have dross to keep the bookies happy

    sigh

Having 150% overrounds and no choice where you bet helps with the prizemoney!!
