Well as it turns out I have already arranged a DEBRA event at Hamilton on the evening of Saturday 9th July. It was arranged well before Peter’s passing. This is the Sunday Mail Families night and we are negotiating with the Sunday Mail to allow DEBRA to share a race with them on the night. All of the races are already taken on that night so we are at their mercy for the race but are quite hopeful. There will be lots of entertainment for the families & kids get in free. So even if we do not get a race we will have a good night.
I have booked a Private box and a Marquee that will take 100 persons with a cash bar, tables & chairs and tote betting facility on the Club lawn next to the Winning post. The box is for our corporate guests and big supporters of the Charity and probably not of interest anyone on this forum.
You are all welcome to join me on the night in the Marquee and I am sure we could sink a few singing gingers in Peter’s memory.
If you are interested send me a PM. Probably looking at around £25 a badge for the Marquee or more if you want to give it. All monies will go to DEBRA.
March 24, 2005 at 18:56 #94922An excellent idea rory – a fitting tribute to a fine poster.
March 25, 2005 at 16:36 #94923Sad news. My sincere condolences to his family. Great poster, whose views were always well well worth a read. Will be sadly missed.
March 25, 2005 at 16:59 #94924Very sad news.
All our thoughts go out to his family at this very sad time.
March 25, 2005 at 21:20 #94925Having only just seen this today i am absolutely shocked and saddened. Phunter/Pete was one of the good ones and i know i will miss seeing his posts on here in the future. A really smashing bloke who never said a wrong word and a guy i greatly respected. Huge condolences to his family and what ever is decided as in sponsoring a race or donations to any cause, most definitely count me in.
God Bless you Pete.
March 25, 2005 at 23:38 #94926Great idea Rory. I’d happily contribute something to a race even though it might not be possible for me to attend.
March 26, 2005 at 13:20 #94927Very sad. A true forum stalwart and (judging by his postings) a good egg.
It is a real reality check and, as has been said, a reminder that behind each poster is a real person with a real and fragile life.
March 28, 2005 at 10:24 #94928Just to keep people up to date:
Seagull will speak to Peter’s widow, Janice during the week, and if she supports the idea of a race sponsored in his memory, then I’ll crack on with the idea. It’s possible that the race could be at Hamilton, Musselburgh or Perth which are all roughly equidistant from where Peter lived. I’ll keep everyone updated, and may well need some help from various quarters. Many thanks to those who have expressed their support.
March 28, 2005 at 17:21 #94929im late to this news…
he was definately one of the best posters in so far as you almost felt that you got to know him
Nothing left for me to say…
March 29, 2005 at 11:45 #94930Tony,
I know that Lucy Normile used to be the course secretary, so I reckoned you might come in handy there!
It seems that Janice is keen on the idea and that Ayr or Hamilton would be joint favourites to host the race, but there’s plenty of research to be done in the meantime. I’ll keep the board updated and am keen on any useful input from forumites (thanks to those of you who have contacted me already ~ I’ll be in touch).
Kevin has mentioned his DEBRA event at Hamilton and this is something that certainly deserves our support, as DEBRA is a charity which was close to Peter’s heart for obvious reasons. Given that it won’t be possible to name the race there, I’m still keen to get Peter his own race at one of the Scottish courses, but I don’t in any way want to detract from that event, and hope to attend myself if possible.
March 30, 2005 at 12:36 #94931Sad news. Condolances to his family.
April 1, 2005 at 07:56 #94932My belated Condolences to all his family and Friends, shocking news…

May 5, 2005 at 20:19 #94934It looks like we will go to Hamilton for the race (Peter’s widow stated a preference for that track or Ayr). I have updated the pinned message at the top of this page with further details and would like it if people could inform me if they would like to attend, and if so what dates would be most suitable, and whether they would consider hiring a box. I need to make an initial booking with the track fairly soon, so have got to pick a suitable date within the next ouple of days. More details will be forthcoming once I have crossed this particular bridge.
Many thanks again.
June 25, 2005 at 22:53 #94935I can’t believe I missed this thread. I rather liked Phunter’s contributions to the forum, and his attitude in general. Really sad, tragic loss :(
Sorry I didn’t contribute here earlier really …
RIP Phunter
