Evan Williams makes the long trip from Wales to Perth this afternoon, and he surely won’t be going there for the weather.
He had his Enlightement declared for this beginners chase (now withdrawn according to BF betting), but stable jockey Paul Moloney was down to ride the apparent second string O De Montot anyway.
Owned by Paul Green, this will be O De Montot’s first run for Williams, after running several times for Francois Cottin in France.
His French form is hard to put a finger on, mainly because it’s so in-and-out, but there are bits and pieces in there which indicate a horse with some talent.
The standout piece of form is from his maiden hurdle, where he beat subsequent multiple Graded-chase winner Or Noir De Somoza 3L off level weights, though it has to be said that he didn’t exactly go on to achieve a great deal over hurdles.
He had a couple of starts in chases in France, finishing 1L second in his first start (4-runner, gaving weight away all round), before being brought down at the first in his second chase start at Enghien.
Perhaps not one to have the mortgage on, but the trainer comes a long way today, the race is pretty poor, and the horse might well have some talent to unlock.
He’s a 4/1 chance on BetFair, with four in opposition, and two of those can be readily discarded.
