Backed Golden Doyen to win @ 20’s
Not seen since winning a qualifier in October and according to the trainer will run next in this race
Took advantage of WH offer up to £25. A few other races available under these terms.
‣ If your horse misses the Festival, your selection will be voided and you’ll get your full stake back.
‣ If your horse runs in a different Cheltenham Festival race to the one you have backed it in you’ll get your stakes back as a free bet to use at the Festival, up to a maximum of £25 for all bets placed on that horse.February 5, 2017 at 08:43 #1285849Backed Behind Time prior to yesterday’s run for this @ 20’s NRNB.
Thought Fry and JP were following the UNWIMH route of two seasons ago when he won of 115 on handicap debut earlier in the season. Looked miles ahead of his mark that day, running very green but still winning nicely.
Subsequent two runs haven’t been as good but still traveled well yesterday for a long way before flattening out.
Still think there’s possibilities here if they can get him in. But what do I know!

I should of cashed out.

Think they’ve run out of time with him. I put him in my tracker at the start of the season after it got a favourable mention in his stable tour. Races to be won with him,but not at the fez this year
February 5, 2017 at 14:00 #1285941I’ll be watching today’s qualifier with interest in a few of them, not least Argentino, who used to be a fave of mine, and I hope he still retains ability.
It’s probably far too early for them this year, but Glenloe, and The Storyteller would be of serious interest if they did get an entry.
February 19, 2017 at 20:21 #1288112I presume that Big River will be aimed for this race. Encouraging performance at Haydock yesterday, would have been close without a bungle at the last, and will be well suited by the stiffer test at Cheltenham.
February 26, 2017 at 11:07 #1288996Big River not entered at Cheltenham which I find surprising. Sunday Mail reported that Sky Khan is aimed for the race, but he’s only entered in the Martin Pipe Hurdle.
Iain Jardine has Stoneham entered in the Pertemps which looks a tad optimistic though as that one would struggle to get a run I suspect off 124.
February 26, 2017 at 14:20 #1289025Ooft, Glenloe gets an entry right enough. Tempted at 33’s.
March 9, 2017 at 20:14 #1290693Really liked Presenting Percy for this but he has been clobbered by the UK handicapper. His race at Punchestown caught the eye but just a few lengths behind was an Elliot runner who had a quiet one also.
I’ve not heard anything about him in any preview evenings but this is his only entry at the festival.
12 lbs better off with Presenting Percy i’ve backed Glenloe @ 20’s to win NRNB
March 12, 2017 at 22:18 #1291509Yep, a post-Brexit handicap mark for Presenting Percy certainly opens the door for the others again. He was probably overbet for the lazy Mall Dini connection anyway.
I’ve already backed Impulsive Star 12/1 e/w, because even a basic bit of form reading tells you he’s a 150 horse running off 140.
Gayebury has also taken been smurfed by Phil Smith for his Chepstow win. Unproven away from soft ground, he’d need to be a borderline World Hurdle horse to win this from 147.
Barney Dwan is really interesting – the apple of his trainer’s eye by all accounts. He had a bad time over fences and took a while to find his feet when switched back to hurdles, but at least got qualified for this race last time out. I was a little concerned by his attitude at Exeter but he still ran well in spite of his temperament. If any headgear is declared, I’ll definitely have a piece of him each-way on the day.
I think this is the end of the Tobefair story. He’s up another 9lbs, in the most competitive race of his life and needs to find so much more. His price is bottled right up. This also looks a bit too spicy for El Bandit, who had his ideal conditions last time but made desperately hard work of it.
Golden Doyen won an early-season qualifier when his yard were red hot, but that was probably his big day. He has enough of his own ideas to put me off, but at least gets his conditions. Mr Mix was putting a nice profile together early in the season, but his Sandown flop and bizarre chasing excursion really put me off. What was Nicholls playing at there?
Sutton Manor and Isleofhopendreams have also been treated quite harshly by the handicapping dictatorship.
The improving Dadsintrouble has fair claims, likewise For Good Measure, who seems to be learning with every run. The big field scenario will suit him but he still has more to find and looks short enough at a single figure price.
So Impulsive Star will remain the main bet, with possibly Barney Dwan (headgear permitting) to be added on the day.
March 14, 2017 at 20:49 #1292066I really fancy For Good Measure. I think he has purposefully been left of the track since the handicapper gave him a rating of 138 which would guarantee him a run in most renewals. He’s a full brother to Balthazar king who loved Cheltenham. And I think the fact that dickie Johnson rides is a plus as I think he suits a more forceful ride than what Barry gives. In a few years I think he’ll be a national horse. Ground will be in his favour, trip is in his favour and the pace of the race will suit also.
I may be going overboard but I’d rather die by the sword than be feeling I under bet him if he wins.
£100 EW FOR GOOD MEASURE
March 15, 2017 at 22:27 #1292476From a short list of six I rejected Presenting Percy (shade too high), Tobefair (harder task, could be outpaced, can’t fight off successive challengers as may not see all those swooping late), El Bandit (needs to improve and stable not flying) and For Good Measure (may just find a couple too good). Those two may be Jury Duty (W), just because Elliott is on fire doesn’t alter this looks to have been laid out with his usual skill and planning – for all he knew he may have been looking for his first winner, and Electric Concorde (E/W) for trainer with good festival success from limited runners, solid form and clearly not right last time, young and progressive handicapper.
March 16, 2017 at 01:41 #1292552Clondaw Cian 25/1 e.w for me
March 16, 2017 at 01:43 #1292553think the horse has a great chance
March 16, 2017 at 03:55 #1292564Suttons Manor 25/1 each way
March 16, 2017 at 11:10 #1292645I have backed four in this!!
BARNEY DWAN 20/1 IMO would have beaten Tobefair if he had stood up at Warwick and is overpriced!
CLONDAW CIAN 33/1 I backed this when it won at Cheltenham before and then ran a shocker at Warwick but looked to be coming back to something like last time.
SUTTON MANOR 25/1 looks overpriced considering who trains it!!
THE TOURARD MAN 66/1 Huge price if it comes back to anything like his old form and will love the ground IMO
Sorry Bobby but I have backed two of yours

Good Luck Everyone
March 16, 2017 at 14:18 #1292722Phil Smith must be smiling! Presenting Percy won easy despite his impossible weight.

How many handicaps have the Irish won this week?
Good job they’re not “fairly handicapped”. :lol:They should stick to riding and training, they’re not handicap/form experts…
And they’re still moaning!
Idiots.
