I really want to bet Ashdale Bob, but even with James Bowen booked, I’m not confident that he’ll come here. I’ve went with Mark Of Gold at 14-1
February 20, 2025 at 13:11 #1720921Ashdale Bob goes ss, I like him too, and I’ve taken 6-1
February 22, 2025 at 12:28 #1721105I can’t see past Rubaud.
The more I know the less I understand.
February 22, 2025 at 13:45 #1721113Nicholls is in better form now than when Rubaud ran against L’Eau Du Sud. Bit of a quick turn around after Warwick, but has done it before. Flattered by his proximity to the Arkle horse, but that’s more than allowed for in the betting. Rubaud isn’t sure to stay, but although there’s been more rain than forecast which could put more emphasis on stamina… it is possible he could get a soft lead and set a slowish pace… Well, if the rank outsider Bhaloo does not take him on. I suspect the latter will be on a recovery mission, having been pulled up twice, so less likely to go to the front. On hurdles form Rubaud should be difficult to beat and is proven right-handed…
Unlike the second favourite Imperial Saint. All of his chase starts have been left-handed and has jumped that way too at times. Third in an open handicap at Cheltenham last time out isn’t far behind Rubaud’s form. Just don’t think the conditions suit.
Ashdale Bob would be the other possible prominent runner, which is one reason why he’s a bet and he can race pretty much anywhere. The Irish horse might be 10 years old but – after not jumping well when put over fences in previous seasons – has jumped well on his two starts this term. Needs to improve to beat a top form Rubaud, but there is that stamina doubt with the fav – so may not need to.
The rain is probably against Boombawn, rarely races on soft… And has to give weight to both Rubaud and Imperial.
Mark Of Gold was dwarfed by Handstands, Kalif and Jango in the Scilly Isles. And lacks the scope of some here too.
The fact Bhaloo ran over hurdles on his penultimate start immediately after winning – rang alarm bells… And then the two PU’s all suggest he’s had big problems at home since his victory.
Backed Rubaud and Ashdale Bob.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 22, 2025 at 13:57 #1721115Well, well, a mile out he looked like he was done.
Hats off to HC
February 22, 2025 at 14:08 #1721119Brilliant ride. Needs to lead or at least a share of the lead.
With his doubtful stamina, Cobden went as slow as he possibly could to still keep / dispute the lead.
Nolan should really have shut the door. But once Rubaud got back in front he just didn’t allow the others by.Value Is EverythingFebruary 22, 2025 at 14:09 #1721120Going around the inside all the way made all the difference. Why the other jockeys let him do that is a mystery, particularly Nolan. Why he didn’t cross to the rail when getting the lead was poor and lacked initiative.
February 22, 2025 at 14:10 #1721121Brave performance as he was on and off the bridle a long way out and his jumping was a case study of being very hit and miss, he had every right to back out of that especially given the hard race he had at Warwick.
Wonder if they will mention anything about the RaceIQ stats from this race on the lengths lost at the fences – he ballooned many fences as well as putting down on Cobden several times too so it would make for very interesting reading and proves that whilst slick jumping is an asset it can at times be overridden by the natural talent of the horse.
