You ain’t getting any selections or much discussion from me – I’m just posting this in case anyone else is interested.

They’ve got videos of previous years.
Starting stalls! There are two dips on the track. The fences are glorified brush hurdles, except for one that is on top of a brick wall that seems to have a drop on landing. They also manoeuvre onto a figure of eight track. Looks like you need a horse that has won at Kempton & Fontwell.
Foreign entries are
Trained Country Horse Name Sex/Age Trainer
GB STAN(NZ) G10 V Williams
GB STARZAAN(IRE) G10 H Morrison
IRE SCHINDLERS HUNT(IRE) G9 D Hughes
FR GRIVETTE(FR) M5 FM Cottin
AUS GINOLAD(AUS) G9 Aaron Purcell*The JRA was informed that GRIVETTE will not run in this race.
Starzaan has managed the Fontwell bit!
March 15, 2009 at 16:59 #216517They’re accepting Ginolad for the novelty of running a horse overseas and taking all the low-brow owners over for a holiday. I predict he’s a quarter of what Karasi was capable of.
March 15, 2009 at 18:46 #216532Grivette an absolutely cracking mare so gutted she won’t be running. Likely for the Prix La Barka on 24th May I’d say now.
Not really that good on Japanese jump racing (I need to do more study tbh). That jumps track looks strangely familiar, I rode Futurologist to win the Prix Saint-Michel there 3 years running
March 15, 2009 at 19:00 #216535Not much jump racing takes place in Japan, but a high proportion of their races have huge prize money on offer.
In 2007 there were only 132 races run over jumps in Japan, compared with 17,476 flat races.
If you’ve got a decent (Graded level) horse who acts on fast ground, is adaptable and doesn’t mind the travelling, then these sorts of races could be real money-spinners for UK/Irish/French trainers.

Lol, the same thought crossed my mind upon reading 4250m around a figure-of-eight track. Futurologist is a total hound though, and just about struggles to get home.
Back on-topic, I thought Monkerhostin was being aimed at the Grand Jump. Does anyone know why the plan has changed?

Impressive stuff. If it’s the same Futurologist im thinking of, i remember him being prone to hit 1 or 2 fences almost Kauto Star esque!
March 15, 2009 at 20:42 #216556You need to be handy on him tbh

Back on topic The Outback Way and Banker Count are two notable British runners in the past off my head.

Back on topic The Outback Way and Banker Count are two notable British runners in the past off my head.
There’s a Youtube video of The Outback Way finishing third under Jim Culloty, with Doumens Bora Bora just failing to beat the local horse Gokai:

The Outback Way is in light blue with dark blue hooped sleeves and a red cap.
Off the top of my head, I think Direct Route and a Martin Pipe trained horse ran in the race a few years back.
The JRA do actually have quite a decent amount of chases – some of them such as the Fukushima Super Jump over just 1m 6f.

March 16, 2009 at 03:20 #216701A 1m6f chase would be interesting for a fair few horses from here, I’d have thought.

I stared looking at this stuff a few months back as a possible route for Flipper (Fiepes Shuffle), and I was really surprised how many races are held at 2 miles and less.
Here’s the link to the Fukushima Super Jump – it’s actually just under 1m 6f:

The race is run in just under 3 minutes, and there are just 8 obstacles, 1 of which is a bank, and I doubt you’ll ever hear commentary like this again – OK, he starts off normal, but wait till they jump a fence!
Altogether now: 1-2-3….’MIGITI JUMPUUUUUUUUHHHHH’.

April 19, 2009 at 13:01 #222574Had to go to page 2 to dig this out.
Here’s the link again – the race was yesterday.
http://japanracing.jp/nakayama/index.html
I watched it on the low bandwidth version, so it was about 1.25" by 3".
There will be an English racecall put up om Monday evening, but I don’t see what’s wrong with the Japanese one.
There was still British involvement in the race, as the winner was by Opera House, and the second was out of a British bred mare. At least the Nips don’t have any secret weapons when it comes to breeding Chasers.
I am still bewildered that Stan went for the Grand National instead of this.
April 19, 2009 at 23:16 #222656Just seen the 1m6f Chase.
Was that Japanese Thommo calling that one.
November 3, 2009 at 05:31 #256844Just bumped this up as
Ginolad
, who finished 6th in the Nakayama Grand Jump, has now joined Venetia and is entered at Wincanton on Saturday.
Now all we need is a link to the Grand Annual he won at Warrnambool and the 2m6f Grand National he won at Flemington.
