Has any jockey ever had a worse week racing wise than Paul?

Min, Sharjah, Nicholls Canyon, Rathvinden and Faugheen. He must have upset a black cat somewhere.

And other than perhaps not changing his whip hand on min, its hard to argue than it was anything other than just bad luck

Would he have won if he had changed his whip hand on Min? Did he get a ban? He should have done.

Plenty of jockeys have had worse weeks.

Yes not a good week but I don’t think some of the Mullins horses have performed like they should. Maybe his yard is under a cloud or something.

And the Cheltenham Festival is looking poorer by the day. Champion Hurdle fav now potentially injured, Champion Chase 2nd fav turned over at long odds on only a month after Douvan gets ruled out, Stayers hurdle fav has tragically died and the Gold Cup winner has been well beaten.

I hear that there could be something traveling round the Mullins yard but who knows if there’s anything in that?

He received a two day ban for careless riding. We’ll never know if Min would have straightened had Paul switched his whip but he should have tried and for me two days was lenient.

I’m struggling to think of any other jockey who has had such a good book of rides over four days only for so many to suffer mishaps. Other than Min I’m not suggesting it’s his fault. I’m just wondering which of the gods he must have upset to have this run of luck.

After the last from the side on view the ride on Min didn’t look bad at all but the head on was quite shocking for how bad Townend was (see from 17:25 mark of the attached). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncHStRo_V4Q

For me he was very lucky to get done for just careless riding as he made no attempt to switch his whip and twice put Simply Ned into the railing with the second time causing part of the railing to break off – it was damn dangerous.

Min would have won had he pulled his stick through but because he didn’t and his left hand was holding the rein away from Min it encourage him to drift left onto Simply Ned – pretty sure he knows how to use the whip in his left hand and no excuse for him not to switch it, if I was Ricci I wouldn’t have been impressed with what I saw from that head on.

Agree with others comments about his bad luck on the other horses mentioned – bet he can’t wait for this year to end now.
