He was not a happy man today. He has now withdrawn both of the Brooks horses tomorrow.
Has he taken his bat and ball home or is this a canny move by saving the horses for Aintree?
March 16, 2022 at 19:32 #1587834The clerk of the course made a serious and ill-judged decision to water the course on Tuesday night that practically ruined today’s racing, in my opinion. Stupid decision and I don’t blame Nicholls for pulling his horses out.
March 16, 2022 at 19:59 #1587851I bet Nicky wished he,d taken his bat and ball , be fair to say Nicholls maybe a man to follow come Aintree

March 16, 2022 at 20:06 #1587862Take your time, why didn’t you post your comments last night?
March 16, 2022 at 20:10 #1587865Nicholls has done right by his horses if they aren’t suited to such conditions then why run and ruin them long-term. Plenty of other races while they are still Young

March 16, 2022 at 21:30 #1587888Paul Nicholls has my sympathy on this one.

However God forbid , if Henderson did the same thing. The flak he would have received off some would have been unbelievable. Double standards methinks.March 16, 2022 at 21:35 #1587895Agreed.

March 17, 2022 at 03:28 #1587929Nicholls made a fool of himself. That the going became heavy would have happened with or without the watering.
March 18, 2022 at 04:05 #1588375Britain’s Champion Trainer has a grand total of 1 runner at Cheltenham on Friday – Bob and Co in the Hunter Chase.
Does he have absolutely nothing else to run at the festival? Or has he just given up on it?
I saw him interviewed by Nick Luck and he hinted that retaining the championship is his main priority. It looks like he would rather keep horses for Aintree, Ayr, Cheltenham in mid-April and Sandown.
I suppose it is good to see he recognises that the season is not all about one meeting. However, I am not sure it is a great look for British racing when the Champion Trainer is barely represented at all on the blue riband day of the season.
March 18, 2022 at 07:24 #1588381CAS the champion jockey elect hasn’t had ride at the meeting either , 10/15 years ago it paid the take on Nicholls at the Scot nat meeting , now you better make sure to follow him if you want to make anything

March 18, 2022 at 07:32 #1588384I was surprised Saint Calvados was out due to the cut in the ground. I’ve always fancied him as somewhat of a mudlark. Odd.
BUY THE SUN
March 18, 2022 at 08:30 #1588389And the ground had dried out yesterday.
Can’t help feeling Nicholls had just had enough after Stage Star ran like a drain.

Agree it is not ideal but I can understand that a bit more. None of the trainers he regularly rides for had runners, so why should he go go Cheltenham to ride a few no hopers when he could ride a few fancied horses at Sedgefield and Hexham and earn more money.
