I can’t remember the last time I heard a television commentator stating “past the bushes”. I seem to recall it was quoted all the time.
"Life is timeless, days are long when you're young"
May 3, 2024 at 16:30 #1692621I don’t the bushes exist anymore, RTB.
Value Is EverythingMay 3, 2024 at 17:10 #1692625Well I did think this but I’m sure I saw them today, maybe different bushes

May 3, 2024 at 18:23 #1692641‘As they past The Bushes 2 and a half to go’ was always a regularly common comment made by the TV race commentator calling the races when I was growing up watching the sport.
I do remember back in the day they were quite a large prominent feature that you could always see on the TV but I also do seem to recall that they were nearly lost altogether after suffering from some kind of disease.
To me they are just as iconic as the The Dip and should always be referred to by any race commentator during a race
May 3, 2024 at 18:31 #1692642They were removed when the clerk of the course caught Ginger camping in them and doing his own wind direction tests

May 4, 2024 at 01:06 #1692706I”ll have a good look for you on Sunday RTB and report back.
The Bushes were reportedly where King Charles 11 would stand to watch the racing so obviously no winning post in those days otherwise he’d need a decent pair of binoculars from there.Great Meme Nathan 🤣

May 4, 2024 at 11:32 #1692770On the Opening Show this morning Jason Weaver referenced the bushes when talking about a race.
I’ll also be there Sunday so I’ll see you in the bushes looking for Gingertipster.
May 4, 2024 at 13:51 #1692795He called past the bushes in the 1.45
Paused play and there they were."Life is timeless, days are long when you're young"
May 4, 2024 at 13:55 #1692796I think I prefer “approaching the bushes” to “past the bushes”
then we get “into the dip” before “hitting the rising ground”Blackbeard to conquer the World
May 4, 2024 at 22:59 #1692936It was more a defensive push than hitting the rising ground with COT 😉
