Loved the way Pilaster battled to win on only her 4th career start at Goodwood, the two horses she battled past have run good races since, so the form looks solid. Made Up reopposes here 3lb better of but is more exposed.

Horseplay is a threat but has alot of weight to concede, a line through God Given means she’s opposable to the selection.

Pilaster for me is unexposed and can strike the fourtimer here. 7/2 is worth taking.

Don’t fancy anything as yet but interesting best price 5-1 shot Maid Up is supplemented for the St Leger.

The Lily Langtry at Goodwood(as you pointed out Jack) is the race to watch. Obviously totally differing tracks and probably more cut in the ground Thursday. Will be interesting who A.O’B sends over for this. One who may run well at a price if it come up soft is Mountain Bell, but she really hasn’t fired this term

At the weights Pilaster should beat Horseplay and the Varian stable is having a good spell. On the down side it has been a very low key season for Roger, as he hasn’t had much involvement in the big meetings and top races. His 2YO’s have been underwhelming as well.

Andrew Balding has been in good form for a few weeks now and Horseplay has always looked a bit short of pace to me, perhaps this trip will help her. She has a low strike rate at first glance but she has been highly tried plenty of times. Sea Of Class fans will be looking for a nice run from Horseplay after the Balding filly ran behind her in the Yorkshire Oaks last time.

I can see why NWalton fancies Sizzling each-way, as she seems to have beem improving but I thought those were two weak races she won on her last two starts. She also has an incredible 19 runs under her belt already. Sort of hard to believe she has just started finding improvement after 8 runs at 2yo and 11 runs at 3yo. Another feature of her form is inconsistency of performance, with only four performances over 100 on RPR’s out of her 19 runs and only two from 11 as a 3YO.

I won’t play on this one but would probably side with Horseplay in the hope that the trip may wring some improvement.

Good luck Pants on the early odds :good:

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I had a few pennies on God Given, always there or thereabouts and although the fav looks a decent improving sort the 13/2 on God Given was the pick for me

Well done Nathan and Jamie. Suspect the headwind made several jockeys change tactics; wanting some cover; but thought Spencer was the only jockey to do best for his mount there. God Given didn’t seem to get home at Goodwood so can understand the change of tactics being held up. Sizzling showed by far her best form last time out when going to the front some way out with Seamie. Moore seemed content to stay behind the leaders today. Glad to see my each way bet Horseplay racing fairly prominently just behind the leader, little disappointed Oisin didn’t kick on (allowing others to gain momentum before asking his mount for everything). Not as bad as Andrea; feel sorry for you Pants, and all Pilaster backers. Never been there in her life before today but dropped Pilaster out the back and remained there even when the pace was slow.

    Thanks Pants and Gingerballs
Agree, positioning wasn’t great and was too far back on the fav but the horse did take a long time to get going. The jockey was pushing along well before God Given was asked to make an effort and he wasn’t too far ahead of the fav at the time Atzeni was pushing along. If the horse had responded quicker he’d have got there easy.

Agree Nathan, once the penny finally did drop she flew home.

She’ll improve for soft ground and racing experience so will be an interesting runner in the F&M on Champions Day.

When horses are dropped out as far back as Pilaster they’ve got to make ground up on horses who are themselves quickening. Probably took too much energy to get near them and not surprising didn’t have quite enough left to get in front.

I only saw the race through replay but as I was watching it I felt the jockey on Pilaster was riding as if he had grass growing. Every time I thought it was about time he was asking for an effort he continued to just sit there as if he felt he had a strong kick to play late.

Not one for the career scrapbook to show the grandkids.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

just watched it again and he is asked 3 out to follow winner through(About 3/4L a drift) but has not the instant change of gear the winner has.

Spencer was still taking a tug when Pilaster was being ridden and not far behind him.
Also worth noting God Given was pulling a bit too around the bend whilst the fav was travelling sweetly.
Watched it back and think the best horse on the day won but Pilaster will have other days
