Very interesting to see that Davy Russell is not riding today and is riding instead for his former employer Gigginstown.
He rode Paloma Blue in every race he ran in last year and you would have thought he would have been on again. Intersting and maybe ironic is that he is now ridden by Bryan Cooper who lost his job with Gigginstown.
What a fickle world we live in.

Perhaps it’s because the owner wants a jockey he can be certain will ride his in all the big races. Davy couldn’t guarantee it, even though he’d have tried to ride as often as he could.

He was my biggest ante-post hope for this season but that was on the basis that Russell would be riding him.

Alarm bells were ringing as soon as Cooper started riding for Chris Jones. As far as I am aware the story bypassed the media or perhaps they didn’t want to rock the boat.

Unfortunately, that is now two dire performances after his run in the Supreme. He had been nicely punted for the Arkle but on the evidence of that Navan run he will struggle to win any novice chase. The high cruising speed that he showed over hurdles was non existent and he was continually backing off his fences. A real shame to see as he is built to excel over the larger obstacles.

That is two successive duff runs from what looked a potential Grade 1 animal. If he were mine he would already have left De Bromhead and I would be looking for a new jock. It is too important to waste a horse like this on a jock trying desperately to rebuild a career.

Bit harsh on trainer and jockey i think, dont see what russel would have or could have done different to have made PB put a better performance in than cooper did? Punch behind the ears maybe?

What difference would the jockey have made to that run? absolutely nothing.

    Trainer also is very good.

Pocket talking the most pathetic phrase in the book when you have no real argument to offer. Just a nothing comeback.

By saying the jockey would have made no difference you are saying a struggling, short on confidence jock is as good as Russell. He isn’t so your argument is nonsense.

The horse blew out on his final start and his done similar on seasonal debut. If he had an issue the trainer has had plenty of time to address it. That isn’t good training.

My argument is basically that your argument is nothing.

Blame a jockey for a horse not taking to fences first time up?

Regarding the trainer, you don’t know if he has had an issue or not so your argument is baseless! Honestly, if you think HDB isn’t a good trainer that’s your opinion, but not many would agree. The horse is a tricky enough character he took 3 attempts win a maiden hurdle as well, so it’s early days to be jumping to conclusions…

In my opinion the horse wants a fast pace to run at as he can be keen, and you dont get that every day in maiden hurdles + beginners chases…..

Looked to blow up massively the other week, no jockey could’ve done anything about that.

I thought he jumped fine enough for a debut spin, possibly needs his wind done or was badly needing the run (very possible considering the lack of rain thats been about). Either way, not that bad a run and certainly something that HDB can hopefully build upon.
