Somewhat surprised he is off to stud as I expected to see him as a 4yo, possibly he has nothing to prove maybe because City Of Troy is expected to be the next coming.

The more I know the less I understand.

On the contrary I think he had plenty left to prove but his limitations would have been shown up so he was retired before he could be beaten again.

Although I agree with you that the Jesus mantle had to be washed and handed down to City of Troy.

I’m annoyed on Rock of Gibraltar’s behalf that AOB was at such pains to imply that Paddington was, to paraphrase “the same only much faster”. Of course the Rock is dead now and so since they’re not flogging nominations to him, they can safely compare him unfavourably to their new stallion who is betterer. Except Rock of Gibraltar won five straight G1s as a 3yo, starting with the real 2000gns, then went down fighting in the breeder’s cup rather than getting beaten and then walloped in his last two starts and crying off the States as he said he felt a bit of a cold coming on.

Oh well, the Rock has the last laugh as his son Big Rock just beat Paddington 35 lengths.

Paddington was (arguably) the best of a very poor bunch of 3yo milers this year.

As he would have got walloped in open company next season, it was the obvious decision to take.

I saw Kevin Blake make the point the other day on betfair, about how Coolmore treated Rock Of Gibraltar as almost a pet stallion. So few mares did he cover in his final few seasons. It was so special to see Big Rock come through from such a small number of foals, Green’.

More talk obviously aimed at breeders is depressing.

When it comes to who was the best out of ROG or Paddington, imo it’s The Rock, both in rating, consistency and speed. Wonderful turn of foot much better than Paddington’s chuff chuffing. Personally I doubt Paddington ran much below his best at York. But Rock Of Gibraltar wasn’t even the best miler in the yard in his year. Hawk Wing – still Aidan’s top rated horse ever. If The Rock wasn’t around at the same time, kept to a mile Hawk Wing may have put up even better ratings than he managed.

Oh I find it quite amusing clicking on the story just to see what word salad Aidan will come up with next. It’s like asking a really low budget mk1 chatbot to write a blurb for the stallion brochure.

“He’s an unbelievable specimen who stands over an incredible amount of ground.”
This is my favourite. Run out of new things to say about your latest stallion? Why not claim that the very ground he walks on is incredible. Or unbelievable. Same-same.

“He got physically stronger and heavier from race to race, which is a very unusual thing in a thoroughbred.”
Can I write that up as a case study for the Veterinary Record? Or Nature magazine perhaps.
I’m going to entitle the paper “Skeletally immature mammal grows: an unusual case report”.
    Groundbreaking stuff.
I have all of this year’s lambs still out in the field, I tell you what, if they don’t get “physically stronger and heavier” over the next few months – 48kg liveweight will do nicely- I am gonna be a bit disappointed.

Haha Greenasgrass, I agree it’s best to simply find amusement in Aidan’s hyperbole nowadays.

It’s a shame he’s verging on turning himself into a figure of fun, but I guess he sees the financial reward as worth it.

LOL I suppose they think it sounds better than “he’s a big horse and is a good walker”.
