MacFarlane 10th of 10 . 15 lengths off winner . Those stats do not really convey just how slow MacFarlane is . Shouldn’t really be on any racecourse .Showed speed for 10 metres , then tailed off the trip .
October 10, 2023 at 09:14 #1666147One I’ve followed a bit over the years is in Saturday . Wrens Day , 2nd in Prix Ganay 2018 behind Cracksman , ahead of Cloth of Stars and Rhododendron . Ex Godolphin , went out to James Cummings , then has gone through a few yards .Hes a nice looking horse , 10 now . Goes at Bowen Queensland in the Mango Cup ,Mangos the big thing there , a tourist attraction is The Big Mango , which is a model Mango in town , that’s very big .
October 15, 2023 at 12:00 #1666777I did enjoy your termite hills of old. Do you know they have found some that are 3800 years old and some are double that age. It beats the put em up pulk em down concrete slabs they put up in post war Britain.
I wanted to write about Balmerino the ‘OZ’ horse that got away. One of my few cliff horses of old. A dear friend in horse terms but sadly the tale must wait as the clock wags a long finger at me and park beckons on what looks like a beautiful spring day !
pulk isn’t a word but it fits nicely !
October 15, 2023 at 20:44 #1666832I remember years ago got my kids to stand next to big termite mound for a photo and they danced around as the termites attacked their toes ,from the life in the termites I’d guess it was a younger mound on the way up .
Balmerino had his first 19 starts in NZ so the Kiwis will claim him . The big Kiwi OZ racing dispute though is Phar Lap .
Wrens Day went down by a nose in Mango Cup but I see a horse called Motamayez won at Emerald , ex Roger Varian trained . He has worked hard in OZ , 40 odd starts in couple of years . Emerald has advice re termite checks when buying a house at location in case it’s half eaten , and the world’s biggest replica Van Gogh Sunflowers Painting .October 22, 2023 at 03:09 #1667715Mud you changed your post on Sandown racecourse and edited it. I rather liked that diversity. I do remember the exact words of your old post on Sandown and they were better than your replacement words – although it has to be said, the stucco words were also of high interest, and I will admit that you are an off the cuff writer who more than sparks my interest and must thank you for your tantalizing tasty termites.
Balmerino who should have busted the 3 year old Alleged in the Arc can wait – I put a blind £100 pound on his first race in U.S. – He won eight races as a two year old in his old hot haunt, but had me eating cornflakes !
p.s. Let the termites nibble his memory!
October 22, 2023 at 03:49 #1667717Deep fried termites id guess be high protein and low on emissions farm to plate , not sure if de boning would make them easier to eat .
Old Bulletin had a go at Wondai yesterday , 4th picked up 600 bucks so id guess he gets another go .
Checked and Mcfarlane still in training , maybe change of gear next up .October 22, 2023 at 04:13 #1667718I never expected a response at 4 am Blighty time but grateful for it. You’re the bees knees mate – forget Wondai we should be eating breakfast nosh together including hash browns in the greatest racecourse in the world. TOKYO – it’s termite free but you might lose your shirt on your indiscretions !
Good on ya 👍 !

I’m only sous and this is not the central restaurant in Lima Peru but one can only but dream Michelin !
October 22, 2023 at 06:11 #1667721Google says they taste like peanut butter , maybe Elvis should have tried them deep fried , he was partial to a deep fried peanut butter sammy I read .
November 1, 2023 at 02:11 #1668711Mcfarlane back to Barcaldine on Saturday , 4 th race for him. Couple horses in it look like they can raise a gallop so he will be struggling , couple other slow types in it too so maybe he beats one home in it this time .
November 1, 2023 at 23:37 #1668784Breeders Cup time , five years since his win at Churchill Downs BC Bulletin runs at Kumbia on Saturday , 221 KMs from Brisbane . Kumbia named in local language translates into English as White Ants Nest , a check of those finds them to be Termites not actually ants .
Would Be King goes at Wagga in NSW , ran in Irish 2000 Guineas about 5 years back , and Wrens Day is in at Home Hill , will go close to getting a win .December 23, 2023 at 21:58 #1674842Bulletin sadly now listed as deceased , never got that win in outback.
Macfarlane showing signs of moving about trotting pace and got 1500 bucks in bank now with minor placings , reverted to type at Rockhampton last week and walked round . Not sure he gets many more chances .March 8, 2024 at 08:21 #1683942First one in a while worth mentioning . Governor of Punjab ex Mark Johnstone yard , he’s in at Balnarring at a picnic meeting this weekend, 63 KMs from Melbourne . Won at Glorious Goodwood 2019 , and in next run at Salisbury was stable number one string ahead of Subjectivist . Went to Singapore after , didn’t go any good and been in OZ a while , races off rating of 27 for 2300 AUD first prize . Drawn the 1 gate might help , trying for first win since Goodwood win .
August 24, 2024 at 02:12 #1705647Third Realm winner Lingfield Derby trial and 5 th in Derby in 2021 has been onsold to Townsville in Northern Queensland . Hit bit of form in Townsville Cup last time and each way chance in Cairns Cup today , got a tricky draw to overcome so will need luck from wide out .
August 24, 2024 at 12:37 #1705708Nice run in 7th having to work from draw for Third Realm .
Cup was won by Mahagoni ex Sir Mark Prescott trained , last ran in UK in Silver Tankard Stakes at Pontefract a few years ago .April 29, 2025 at 21:53 #1728720Nelson ex Ballydoyle by Frankel , 8th in the 2018 Arc behind Enable gets a go over jumps today at Warrnambool
Only start number 26 over all those years , has won a couple over sticks past few years .
Dashing Willoughby was in at the meeting too but was scatched out .April 30, 2025 at 00:51 #1728738I think Nelson is also a non-runner Mudcat.
