Trying to think of the name of the filly who used to run from the front. Think she won black type at Haydock an quite regularly got placed in black type. About 10 years ago or a bit more. Any Ideas…oh yeah she was one eyed lol

I’m sure Dick Hern had a good staying filly who only had vision in one eye, but I can’t remember her name.

Henry Cecil trained a very good one-eyed filly called Moon Cactus in the late 80s. She was placed in the Fillies’ Mile, Prix de Diane (behind her stablemate, Rafha) and Nassau Stakes.

My one-eyed filly’s better then your one-eyed filly!

Dante was blind in one eye. His defeat in the 2000 Guineas was put down to him being challenged on his blind side.

It’s a great addition, even though he wasn’t a filly.

Late 60s/early 70s, I think, one-eyed Tameric won the Irish Lincoln. Can’t get any more details, even Google no help.

Wasn’t there a one eyed horse that was prone to taking a nibble
out of his/her equine pals when they tried to get passed

Material World, a smashing mare who won a few races and was runner-up in the Pertemps at the 2007 Festival, did it all with only one eye.

John Dunlop trained a one-eyed horse named Belper who won the City & Suburban handicap in 1974 and was something of a Brighton specialist, winning there 6 times in total. The beast was named after the 4th Baron Belper who, not coincidentally, had only one eye himself.

Possibly the most unusual horse with a sight impairment was Laghat. Trained in Italy about 10-15 years ago, he was apparently totally blind in his left eye and had only 10% vision in the right. Despite this handicap Laghat won 26 races and over €100,000 in prize money.

Ryalex, a chaser trained by Lucinda Russell, deserves a mention on this thread too. Though his claim to fame is being a one-eared wonder rather than a one-eyed wonder.

Barshiba wasn’t a bad broodmare either.

There was a modest chaser around circa 20 years ago who had no tail, named aptly enough No Tale To Tell

1911 Grand National winner Glenside was blind in one eye.

If I was thinking of piloting a horse round Aintree I’d be looking for a mount with the maximum permitted number of fully functional eyes, both of which have recently been tested as 20/20 by the very best equine optician.
