Project Fear continues to turn into Project Reality. Bizarrely it’s pobably a good thing though, if New Zealand can take us to the cleaners (ask a farmer how they feel about that one) then who knows what the USA would do. But never mind, ‘we knew what we were voting for’.
September 21, 2022 at 07:38 #1615294Just over two years, not five, to the next election, behind in the polls and the betting for most seats in 2024, in the middle of a cost of living crisis amid a War after a Pandemic, there’s never been a better time for Our Liz to go “Full On Thatcher Plus,” scorn unpopularity and bring in policies guaranteed to make her the most hated woman in Britain.

September 23, 2022 at 10:09 #1615505I don’t watch much of this stuff but I’ve just seen this ‘mini budget’. The Shadow Chancellor is tearing them a new arse, superb stuff.
September 23, 2022 at 10:15 #1615506Kwarteng has basically admitted that the governing party (ie his own) has got things completely wrong for the last twelve years.
Why people still vote for these jokers is beyond me. 🤷♂️
September 23, 2022 at 10:24 #1615507He did make a couple of pathetic attempts to blame Labour and the EU but you’d have to be a complete idiot to fall for that. It’s always somebody else’s fault with these lot.
Still, alcohol duty is frozen so The Sun can run a ‘CHEERS!’ headline tomorrow with a picture of a pint and the rest of them can shout ‘tax cuts!’.
September 23, 2022 at 12:45 #1615512What’s even better than trickledown?
Trickledown that doesn’t even kick it until the winter of discontent is over!
Those who survive get crumbs from April!
Kami-Kwasi = genius!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 23, 2022 at 13:05 #1615514Starmer does not really emerge well either. Earlier this year he said “the government chose to increase taxes on working people. And this isn’t the first rise from this Chancellor. We’ve had 15 tax rises, if you can believe it, from this Chancellor. So we’ve now got the highest rate of taxation for 70 years… it’s hitting lots of working people and it’s hitting businesses.”
Now a Chancellor announces alleged tax cuts but he opposes that as well!
Does anyone know what he actually believes in?
September 23, 2022 at 13:34 #1615517“Does anyone know what he actually believes in?”
This is the fundamental problem with both Starmer and the current Labour Party. They are trying so hard to be all things to all men, and therefore not offending anyone, that they don’t actually stand for anything clear.
September 23, 2022 at 13:41 #1615519I agree.
Starmer should actually have been in favour of tax rises, but stressed only progressive ones in which funding was used to improve public services.
But by positioning himself as a would be tax cutter himself, his position is weakened in situations like this.
Meanwhile, Our Liz has made it very clear that she’s not all things to all people.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 23, 2022 at 14:05 #1615524I suspect the tax cuts he had in mind were probably not things like abolishing the additional rate for the one percent of the one percent. If anyone can justify that I’d like to hear it.
September 23, 2022 at 14:21 #1615525As Our Liz’s self-appointed TRF rep, I shall explain!
Britain is the sixth-wealthiest nation on the planet!
The reason it feels like the sixth-poorest for most is the wealth is RIGHTLY concentrated in the hands of the cleverest, the hardest working (and, err, those who got the breaks or just inherited it).
Britain must not slide down the global wealth ladder!
To ensure we avoid this, we make the rich even richer so even more rich people want a piece of Britain!
Britain becomes a great place to invest because the workers are so low paid they’re virtually slaves, future legislation will make it illegal to strike, and there will be hardly any corporation or high-earner tax!
There’s never been a better place for a billionaire businessman to go!
And this provides work for the slaves, sorry poor, sorry wonderful salt of the earth British people!

In total GDP, perhaps but that is seriously questionable. By the more relevant GDP per capita, we’re not even in the top twenty!
