Australia has had 6 PMs in the past 10 years so the UK still needs 2 more to catch up.
October 20, 2022 at 16:03 #1619240This is embarrassing. It’s cost us billions to leave the EU,
my wife can’t get the medication she needs, in soluable form
as she has difficulty swallowing. The country is being run
by IDIOTS, and we have no power to change it for 2 years. Truss
has cost the country billions and we can’t even feed and keep
warm the most vulnerable people in society. Christ, you don’t
even have to be that vulnerable. I’m ashamed what this country
has come to.October 20, 2022 at 16:09 #1619243Johnson now only 6 – 5/1!

As for Johnson, you’re pretty much betting on whether or not the membership gets a say. He’ll hose up with them. Wouldn’t be surprised the 1922 Committee is simply working out a way to keep him from getting anywhere near a member ballot.

11/4 now, with Bet365
October 20, 2022 at 16:55 #1619249Betfair Exchange is the ONLY place to look.
Johnson now 7.2 – over 6/1.
That’s a market, not an odds compiler’s guess.
Sunak shortening to 1.87 with Mordaunt 3.95.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 20, 2022 at 17:07 #1619251Would Johnson want to come back, even if it was feasible (which I highly doubt). He is making far more money now than he did as Prime Minister.
October 20, 2022 at 17:16 #1619253After the previous protracted battle, which resulted in a prime minister who resigned after lasted 45 days, the instinctive reaction this time would be to get it over with as quickly as possible, as simply as possible.
But any form of uncontested “coronation,” or electing a new leader without consulting the membership, will lead to problems further down the line as it will mean the next prime minister doesn’t efff even have the clear support of their party membership.
Brady is going to make an announcement in the next half an hour and to be honest I don’t envy him the task ahead.
I think there might be numerous candidates attempting to stand and Brady may be damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t because numerous candidates means a protracted battle yet two few looks even less democratic than it already is.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 20, 2022 at 17:31 #1619254I hate being right all the time; Truss was overtly incompetent and inarticulate. All that faux-Thatcher posing beforehand only made her look ridiculous. I can’t see the Tories allowing a general election, but at least they could expedite their leadership process and elect someone comparatively normal and not in hock to the ERG
October 20, 2022 at 17:35 #1619256Brady says candidates have to be nominated by 100 MPs. There is no way Johnson will pass that threshold.
October 20, 2022 at 17:46 #1619257Sunak 1.84
Mordaunt 3.35
Johnson 9The market – and I – agree with CAS.
Make no mistake, if Johnson stands and gets in the final two to face the members’ online vote, he’s back: he wins.
But getting in the final two requires 100 Tory MPs to nominate him and then maybe even more to vote for him.
I think it’s Sunak and Mordaunt and summer polls suggested Mordaunt would beat Sunak in a face off with members.
But since then Sunak has been made to look like Mystic Meg as his every economic prophesy has come to pass.
What the Tories desperately need is a candidate who is top dog (or bitch) with both MPs and members.
Not sure they will get it, though.

They didn’t have one two months ago and they don’t have one now. Beth Rigby was suggesting a 50 threshold might be decided upon a few hours ago. Too much chance of Johnson making that so they’ve sensibly doubled it. No more than three and very likely two, with the possibility of one.
Nadine Dorries will explode and no doubt complain of a stitch up on her beloved Bozza.
October 20, 2022 at 17:59 #1619260If only two candidates secure enough nominations, I assume they both go to the members’ vote and the only popularity barometer among MPs will be number of nominations obtained as there will be no actual parliamentary vote?

‘At this open-air briefing Sir Graham Brady, chair of the 1922 Committee, also said nominations would close at 2pm on Monday.
He said the ballots would take place on Monday. And when it was down to two candidates, there would be an indicative ballot, he said.’
October 20, 2022 at 18:16 #1619263Yes, I just heard about the indicative ballot – wise of them tbh and if the members contradict the result of that indication they’re in even bigger trouble, faster, than they already are.

It is being set up for a Sunak v Mordaunt contest, or possibly just a Sunak coronation.
October 20, 2022 at 18:31 #1619265Yes the high threshold will also probably stop some wasting their vote on a muppet* who might have a chance at 50 and instead back one of the big two.
Another weekend of rats in a sack looms.
*Yes, I know they’re all muppets.
