Well Done, Ollie.
What a battler. Paddy asked and he kept responding.
Wonderful to watch.
May 23, 2010 at 16:42 #296589I loved every minute of it! (well every minute At The Races allowed to show me)
He’s been a favourite of mine for a while now and i’ve always known he had another win in him. I thought he had it on his last run when only Brooklyn Brownie was too good, but to watch him win such a good prize as the Perth Gold Cup was a real treat.
14/1 was too good value to miss, so that made the win only more sweet!
Where i’d take him next…
I’d try him out for the Summer National next month (won by Fire and Rain last year). I’d even put him in the Charlie Hall aswell in October and of course then i’d enter him in the Becher
May 23, 2010 at 20:09 #296629Good Old Ollie, every time i think of the Charlie Hall i think of Ollie Magern and there wasn"t a horse in todays race that would even get an entry, never mind a run! Great team behind him too!Well done all concerned! His Gold Cup at last!
May 23, 2010 at 20:43 #296632I went along to Perth today and Ollie looked a picture in the paddock beforehand. I was cheering him home loudly and it was great to see him win a good prize like this.

Not a bad call. The shortening of this race from 4m to 3m4f ahead of the 2009 renewal angered me greatly, but I think I’d fancy Ollie’s chances of making all over the newer distance more than the older.
