Always a real highlight this one….

Frodon for me, all day long, despite this looking considerably tougher than last year, I rarely bet under 4’s on the day, never mind Antepost, so I’m in no rush to actually bet him just now, but I do think that 100-30 is fair. I’d love to see him drift, but I’ve got a few days to chew it over.
Kalashnikov is the short priced favourite here, and that’s understandable given how the season finished for him. He can throw in the odd poor run though, and I’m just as worried, perhaps more so, by Forest Bihan, who’s at much more attractive odds, though he does have an entry on Saturday.
Frodon 100-30
October 22, 2019 at 16:40 #1472339It is definitely Frodon for me as well + as much as I think he will be a lot shorter come Sunday, I think I will hold off.
I can’t wait to see the pair of them again.
October 22, 2019 at 16:56 #1472341Frodon is my favourite horse and will jump these lot silly from the front
But a stone is a lot of weight and it’s making me hold off
I still think he wins though, if he gets into his usual rhythm out in front can see the likes of Kalashnikov being put completely out of their comfort zone
They will be losing a length at every fence
Is there a better sight in horse racing at the moment than frodon pinging every fence?
October 22, 2019 at 19:11 #1472348I’ll be opposing the two principles here. Frodon will be running off a career high mark against decent opposition and there are definitely better handicapped horses amongst them. Kalashnikov finally delivered here in April, but I’m not sure how much I trust that bare result.
Forest Bihan has done little wrong in defeat and has been dropped another 1lb for his recent third place effort, making him 4lbs lower than when he finished just 5 lengths behind Croco Bay in the Grand Annual in March! This step up in trip could prove the making of him too. He’ll also be one of only two potential runners not making their seasonal debut. That’s enough for me to side with him should he trap here. It’s worth noting he has also been jocked up for this despite also holding an entry for Cheltenham.
October 22, 2019 at 19:52 #1472352I thought you’d be on Ultragold Peter. Hard to see him winning, but I do like him as an outsider at 33’s, the more I look at him.
Could put you off Forest Bihan though, definitely a danger, though he is getting bet for that Cheltenham Race.
I finally took that 100-30 for Frodon.
October 23, 2019 at 10:37 #1472380Oh I’ll 100% be on my old friend, Bobby! I just assumed they’ll opt for the veterans chase instead…
October 23, 2019 at 11:49 #1472384The bookmakers have each way terms to 2 so expecting 7 or less to line up is my view of their view of this race.
The market seems to have the first two covered very well Kalashnikov & Frodon and if things go that way then the little interest from me. However Big Martre looks like he might spoil the party for one. Being aimed at this race for an early target he could be ready to run a great race, however on 148 it will be difficult and his success here might mean it’ll be more difficult in the future. You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.October 27, 2019 at 10:48 #1472970I love FRODON everytime i bet on him he does it. Im not going with him in this though as ill probably avoid it. Those big fences and conceding a fair bit of weight aswell. KALASHNIKOV does have a mare in him though!
October 27, 2019 at 15:11 #1472991WD Peter H.
Gallant little Frodon not really a Flat horse.
Kalashnikov’s jumping improved a bit as they went on but still wouldn’t dash to back him for the Ryanair just yet.
October 27, 2019 at 15:15 #1472992Yes frodon had little to no chance carrying all that weight with them missing so many fences
October 27, 2019 at 15:41 #1472993Well done Peter
October 27, 2019 at 15:50 #1472994I’m still disappointed how Frodon performed despite the weight and lack of fences, I wouldn’t be rushing to back it in Haydock’s Betfair Chase following today’s poor performance.
Saying that I’m sure Paul (after the race) Nicholls will say the horse wasn’t fit and he didn’t expect it to win.
October 27, 2019 at 16:52 #1472997Jesus I was going to back forest until I read Ellison comments in the racing post ….I’ll never learn
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
October 27, 2019 at 18:04 #1472999I was a wee bit disappointed myself Phil.
As I said, was more worried by Forest Bihan than Kalashnikov, so expected better than third, and seen him jump better, so can’t even use the dolled off fences as an excuse.
I’ve never really been grabbed by Kalashnikov the way others have, I know he’s a real favourite of many, but that was better today, and despite the odd iffy jump, I wouldn’t rule him out of The BetVictor.
As for the winner, I thought he looked the winner a long way out, and a deserved winner.
October 28, 2019 at 01:10 #1473031Complete joke of a race.
You have one of the best jumpers of a fence in the sport and then he finds out he’s got to run in a flat race.
Having said that they way Frodon drifted suggested he’ll come on for the race.
October 28, 2019 at 10:42 #1473035Well done, Peter. FB is one of those I am tired of backing and eventually gave up on.
Bar that early error, I thought Kalashnikov’s jumping was superb. If he can sharpen his concentration and deliver that precision every time, he’ll be a proper force to be reckoned with this season, although I’m not sure what trip will be ideal. I’ll be following him very closely.
