    Here’s something I read on Neigh yesterday that will bring a smile to the face of at least one TRFfer here, and probably quite a few more besides. Roddy Owens, owner of numerous animals with Peter Bowen, put up a post which read;

    “Well chaps just like to update you. The great horse Ballycassidy lives in a field alongside the long gallop at Peter Bowens.

    Everyday himself and his mate Take the Stand, follow the lots down to the start of the gallops, and race alongside them, back up the hill to the top,neighing and whinnying as if to say, we were better, give us a chance again. They do this for every lot.

    So much so that Micky and Paul ,Peter and myself have decided to give him a season hunter chasing. We think the old boy will enjoy this”.

    That’s terrific news for those of us (not least Zome!) who have held this stalwart close to our hearts for many years and / or wish he’d gone this route soooner.

    He’ll think nothing of having to carry weights of or around 12st competitively, having had to do that in handicaps for most of his career, and the easier competition of hunters’ chases shouldn’t see him getting disheartened as much as he was in his last two or three starts in 2007-8.

    Moreover, it is confirmed that he will receive the assistance of the gifted amateur Donal Devereux, who did so well with the aforementioned Take The Stand this last winter.

    One good reason to wish it was the start of February already, I reckon!
