May 19, 2008 at 20:26 #164439Hi batman – you will probably struggle to get tickets on the door for Plate Day, especially if you are trying to get into the Premier enclosure – I would book up beforehand if I were you.
May 19, 2008 at 20:55 #164445Make a full week of it,
Sunday go to Hexham for proper racing
Weds Plate and Bell day at Carlisle
Thur,Fri and Sat Newcastle Plate meeting.
May 22, 2008 at 23:05 #164871I might be of too hexham with my other half and a couple of members of he local bar, though the idea it is proper racing makes me howl, flapping more like.
The horses dont jump proper fences, are ridden by amtaturs and running more peanuts what a joke, entertaining, but having been too proper national hunt at Wetherby since i could crawl, points are abit of let down quality wise,As for Northumberland Plate day, book early every Mr and Mrs Cannybody will be going, its a great atmosphere.

Frankly, the way things have gone at Wetherby this Spring, be grateful at least that at Hexham you’ll still be able to see them jumping anything more than 4ft high!
Hexham – terrific stayers’ course, wonderful atmosphere, magnificent views, but bobbins prizemoney and facilities. Despite the last two details, I love it dearly. Hold it close.

May 23, 2008 at 00:14 #164876I have been too Hexham on a normal day, I agree with your comments about the course.
As for Wetherby, instead of messing around putting in new bars for the beer and skittles crowd they should have got the drainage and new course bedded in and new sorted out.Mind you Newcastle is a let down in real terms given that it should be amazing and is not. Having gone their on Eider Chase day with an trainee catholic priest and his husband, they were amazed by the amount of rough trade about (rough looking men but well turned out men complete with scars tattoes etc) , one of them back the winner of the big race at 20-1 on his first visit too a racecourse, i think it was divine insparation,.

I have been on Plate Dat, the atmosphere is great, the Geordies are up for it, though remeber that its a long walk back too the tube from the racecourse.
May 23, 2008 at 01:22 #164878With four slightly portly queens we needed a roomy cap

Plus it takes ages too get out of the course after the last in cab and will cost a fortune, thouygh once at the tube you can get a line which will takr you too the mainline rail services without having too change trains.
