Really happy with that yesterday, and on top of the pair winning, easily got my money back on Saltonstall, who ran a screamer, having been 50’s till shortly before the off. He’ll definitely be getting bet again.
Have to play on after that.
In The Summer Cup, the only horse I was interested in, Locks Corner, was very short. He’s more than double that Antepost price now though, and happy to side with him. He let me down at Leopardstown, but back to winning ways last time out, where he was just too short for me. I think his price is fair.
The 1500 is a tough one, but I’m definitely having a go. Considering Justatenner, who has a couple of decent runs in him, and he’s a fair price. I’ve already bet Some Day Soon at a big price, and I can easily see him making the five.
I’ll probably have more than the one at Cartmel, but for all he’s high in the weights, I thought Iolani shaped better last time, and is worth chancing in the opener.
In The Rockingham at The Curragh, I’ll go with Grammata. Not close to being as good as I thought she would be, but she’s the got the ability to run well here at a price.
I would definitely be happy to top any of them up at bigger odds later
1410 Cartmel – Iolani 14’s
1500 Utt – Some Day Soon 18’s EW 5pl
Rockingham – Grammata 20’s EW 5pl
Summer Cup – Locks Corner 13-2July 2, 2021 at 12:27 #1548747Very poor lot on Sunday, with only crumb of comfort being stakes back for Iolani.
First time in a long time today that I won’t be betting Euchen Glen. 3’s looks fair, but he’s already paid his way for me twice this season already, so I can afford to cheer him on without a bet.
Same goes for Mid Winster, just a tad short, and I’ll hopefully get a good idea of how good she can be today.
I did look to perm them in though, and came up with a couple, Fearby, and Poseidon.
Fearby caught the eye last time, and I thought the odds were very fair, for all this looks a lot tougher.
Poseidon makes the “switch” from Burns to Byrnes, and if I’m being honest, he looks one for later on, particularly at this early stage over fences. He’s got ability though, and I chanced him at the odds.
1420 Sandown – Fearby 12’s
1845 Wexford – Poseidon 7’sJuly 2, 2021 at 16:32 #1548772what a horse he is!
July 3, 2021 at 00:53 #1548828Ista, I just bloody love him. Even without betting him on his own, the perms worked out nicely, and landed me a nice treble.
The minute they turned in, I knew he’d get there, and I’ve a feeling we’ll see him again soon. What a boy.
Good day overall. Fearby was impressive, and delighted with the 12’s, and there’s surely a lot more to come, and I was equally happy with Mid Winster.
Only Poseidon let the side down, but he at least let it down in style, being beaten about half the track.
On to Saturday.
I wanted to see Seattle Rock and The Trader at Newmarket next week, but both out tomorrow. I think Seattle Rock will win again this year, and I’m happy with her odds. Impressive enough last time, and she just looks big. The Trader is a harder one to pin down. Typical Johnston horse, who runs regularly, and blows hot and cold. I always think that the sensible option with the likes of The Trader is to take advantage of a decent price. Well he’s 33’s, and he was third in this last year off the same mark. Happy with that.
Bowman is another Johnstone runner. Bet him once before, and he was very poor. Thought he was going to get involved at York, but flattered to deceive. Thought Dettori an interesting booking, and was happy to chance him at 14’s, but hesitated and missed it. If any earlier returns, I’ll have a wee interest, for all it’ll probably not be at 14’s.
At Naas, I could give a chance to Shandra back at seven. She won on debut last year, and though an average enough race, she did it well. Thumped since, but I’m hoping the trip is key.
My old pal Thosedaysaregone is back out at Bellewstown. 12’s too big, but he’s another who might have Galway as priority. I’ll watch the market, and if there’s much movement, I’ll chance him. I’d also chance him if any luck earlier on.
Gee Rex is also running at Bellewstown. Definitely not betting him at the short price, especially after some lifeless runs, but he remains of interest this year.
Distaff – Seattle Rock 16’s
Old Newton Cup – The Trader 33’s EW 6pls
1540 Naas – ShandraJuly 8, 2021 at 00:51 #1549732Great run from Seattle Rock on Saturday, and got my money back, just, but The Trader was just ok, and Shandra very poor.
Like a couple today.
Blackrod should win some nice races, and though this doesn’t look the easiest opportunity, happy to chance him at around 10’s.
At Leopardstown, Saltonstall looks way overpriced. Slight question mark over trip, but he ran a cracker last time after missing break, and he’s on a nice mark. Looks to be coming nicely i to form, and Jockey takes seven off, and should be a big help. I’ve taken the 25’s, and he’s a big EW fancy here. I’d happily top up if he went bigger too.
1500 Newmarket – Blackrod
1840 Leop – Saltonstall 25’s EW 5plJuly 8, 2021 at 11:04 #1549760Hi VTC,
Article below the trainer mentions Saltonstall being aimed at the Galway festival in a few weeks time.
Difficult to know if hes just out for a run today or will try get a place. Thought I would share it anyhow.
July 8, 2021 at 15:16 #1549791great ride by SDS there
July 8, 2021 at 16:09 #1549802Yeah Ista he made the difference there, decent ride that
Cheers Ken, thanks for that link. That makes me less excited about him tonight, but I really think he can sneak a place here. I’d take that right now mind
July 8, 2021 at 22:21 #1549841Was having a go on Friday regardless of today’s results, but happy to be doing it off the back of Blackrod. As Ista says, was a great ride, and he got it spot on.
Ken, it definitely looks like Galway is the plan for Saltonstall now after that, and I won’t be deserting him there. Bang average tonight though.
Still happy with Blackrod at 11’s, and I’ll go with three tomorrow.
I was going to sit out The Midlands National at Kilbeggan, but in the end I’ve went for Mortal. He’s lost his way a bit, but did look decent two years back, and he might have sneaked a place at Punchestown for falling three out. I’m not convinced that this is his trip, but he’s below last winning mark, and jockey takes a handy seven off, so at a whopping 50’s, he’s the bet. Just win at the moment, but I’ll play five places tomorrow.
Mindsmadeup was a fancy of mine for that race, but he instead goes for the race he won last year, and I thought 8’s just too big.
I’ve been watching Embour for a while, and gave him a squeak for The Stewards Cup. Course and Distance Winner, in form, on a winning mark, and that’s enough for me to go with the 14’s. I’ll probably play him five places, but he’s another I’ve played early for the win. Think that’s a very fair price.
1645 Newmarket – Embour 14’s
1905 Kilbeggan – Mindsmadeup 8’s
Midlands National – Mortal 50’sJuly 10, 2021 at 12:54 #1550136Moving swiftly on from yesterday’s selections.
Cracking days racing today, and I had a shortlist well in to double figures last night. I struggled to put a dent in it this morning.
Hands tied a wee bit Rohaan, who I bet Antepost, and Nicholas T, who I almost went with Antepost. I’d have been as well waiting with Rohaan, as can get same price today, while the same price stands for Nicholas T, so he’s added too. I’ll bet him to Max EW places too.
At Limerick, Trees Valley is back out. I’d prefer to back her in a handicap, but as she’ll probably be 20’s+ on the exchange’s before the off, I’ll be disappointed if I don’t get a profit in running. In the 1650, also very keen on Go All The Way.
Very difficult trimming it down today, with the likes of Ropey Guest, El Astronaute, Flaming Spear, Brando, Motakhayyel, and Austrian Theory all making a lot of appeal at the odds, but just too many to justify.
I’ll change my approach if any winners, but for now, got to keep it tight.
1320 Limerick – Trees Valley (in running)
John Smiths Cup – Nicholas T EW6/16’s
July Cup – Rohaan 8’s
1650 Limerick – Go All The Way 14’sJuly 16, 2021 at 22:18 #1550994Hoping for a better Saturday than that lot gave me.
Already covered a few of these in Big Races.
Stunning Beauty has a handy three pounds taken off tomorrow, but she’s a short enough price. Hoping she can do enough here to book her place in The Golden Mile, but I’ll have a small interest here, to win my stake back for Goodwood.
I’d consider Seattle Rock or Maria Magdalena too tomorrow, but I’d have to have some joy in earlier races.
Sapphire – Romantic Proposal 11-2
1455 Newmarket – Stunning Beauty 9-2
Scurry – Gulliver 7’s
Scurry – Grammata EW 6pls/18’sJuly 24, 2021 at 14:01 #1551812Much better last week with Grammata keeping me ahead at a decent 28’s. She’s a bit in and out, but worth following.
Today’s….
1440 York – Gulliver 10’s
International – Star of Orion 25’s EW
International – Ropey Guest 33’s EW 5 pls
International – Ropey Guest 25’s EW 7 plsJuly 25, 2021 at 22:47 #1552007Star of Orion was frustrating, couldn’t have been much closer, but paid for the day. Sadly not as big a profit as Grammata, being a smaller bet, but I’ll take it, with a big week coming up.
Love this Galway/Goodwood Week, but bloody tough as well, and I’d settle for a small profit right now.
Should really just concentrate on Galway, but Flaming Spear looks overpriced at Wolverhampton, and has to be worth a go back on this surface.
The Connacht Handicap is the highlight at Galway. I think Runrized is an interesting one for Mullins. He’s surely better than we seen last time, and he looks big at 33’s. I’d have no hesitation in adding him at a higher price. I’ve always liked De Name Escapes Me, and he’s included too.
Shamad getting bet too. He looks way overpriced to me, and happy with 14’s.
I’m seriously considering Princely Conn too at 40’s. I might play him if I see market support, or maybe wait and see if I have any luck earlier, but either way, that price is tempting.
1745 Galway – Shamad 14’s
1815 Galway – De Name Escapes me 18’s
1815 Galway – Runrized 40’s EW 6pls
1905 Wolverhampton – Flaming Spear 8’sJuly 27, 2021 at 09:32 #1552123Washout yesterday, really underwhelming selections.
I’ll be mucking about with most races today, but after that today, I’ll keep it brief on here.
Saltonstall should run well in The Colm
Quinn BMW Handicap, but no question he’s got his work cut out to land a three timer. Hoping he can make the frame. The other I like at Galway is Surrounding. She was poor last time, but she’s better than that, and hoping for a decent run.
Loads to like at Goodwood, and I like Escobar in The Lennox Stakes, a big price with five places on offer. Always risky going with second choice, Duke of Hazzard was originally going to be the pick, but with the rains arriving, Escobar looks worth a go.
Lennox – Escobar 33’s EW 5pls
Corrib Fillies – Surrounding 11’s
Colm Quinn BMW – Saltonstall EW 6pls/33’sJuly 27, 2021 at 19:26 #1552219Much more like it today. Saltonstall was biggest bet of the day, and got the EW Returns, plus a very decent profit in running.
Also got a decent enough profit off Escobar in running. He was a frustrating one, as I thought he should’ve been closer, but I’ll take it.
On to Wednesday and the big race of the day, The Galway Plate, is the obvious starting point. Could have changed my mind over and over, but I’m happy to be three handed in a race for the first time this season, and I’m with Off You Go, Annamix, and Samcro.
Cracking supporting card at Galway.
Suprise Package was a good one to follow last year, and at around 11-2, I’ll be keeping the faith.
As per, I’ll be keeping the faith with Winter Escape too, for all the market vibes aren’t great. I fancy I could beat the current 11’s.
My old pal Dalton Highway is out too, but around 4’s, I’ll cheer him on without a bet, unless any earlier luck. Same goes for Seattle Rock at Goodwood, but she’s at least appealing at the price.
Another good card at Goodwood, and the one who I can’t leave out is Agincourt at around 25’s. She’s inconsistent (understatement), but she ran well here this year, and six places makes a big difference.
Oak Tree – Agincourt EW 6pls
1725 Galway – Suprise Package
Galway Plate – Annamix 20’s
Galway Plate – Off You Go 14’s
Galway Plate – Samcro 16’s EW 7pls
1915 Galway – Winter EscapeJuly 29, 2021 at 14:33 #1552506Another disappointing one yesterday.
Galway Plate was main betting race, and after two fences I wanted to bet Royal Rendezvous in running, looked like Livelovelaugh in The Topham. Great when you’re on side, but demoralising when you know you’re beat early doors.
Only success was Agincourt, who I got my money back on. Could’ve taken my money back on Suprise Package, but I just let it run, he’ll come again.
As will Winter Escape. It’s safe to say I easily beat the 11’s. Market told he was beat before the off, but I had a minimum bet at 100’s on the exchange before the off, just in case. Was merely a pipe opener, and I’ll be with him again for sure.
Friday looks a serious days racing, best of the week, so just three bets at the moment.
1610 Goodwood
Robasta 8’sGalway Hurdle
Belfast Banter 8’s
Thosedaysaregone 28’s EW7/33’s EW6July 30, 2021 at 01:10 #1552616If the week had been going better I would have let Robasta run, given it was a smaller bet, but bit more cautious, and thankfully laid off in running.
That put a better spin on things, and sitting out the other races made sense.
Obviously full of trepidation going into Friday, but it’s an excellent days racing at Galway and Goodwood. The card at Goodwood is particularly good, and looking forward to Euchen Glen.
I’ll be betting every race on both cards, as it’s one of those days. Still working out most of Galway, so might add a post tomorrow….
1350 – Cleonte 33’s EW 6pls
Golden Mile – Escobar 16’s
Golden Mile – Maydanny 14’s EW
Qatar – Stone of Destiny 66’s EW 4pls
Queens Plate – Euchen Glen 6’s
Galway Blazers – Aramax 25’s -
