That was an absolutely fantastic ride. Just kidded the horse all the way; saved every inch and never looked the winner at any point except the last stride.
Glad the horse has finally won another.

April 17, 2014 at 20:56 #475961One of the most exciting races I’ve seen all season. A joy to watch.
Mon Parrain, on his rating of 137 was incredibly conspicuous beforehand though all the same, I was cheering on Time For Rupert throughout the most part of the race.
Nevertheless, it was impossible not to notice the skill which Scholfield utilised on his mount. Particularly as the Nicholls’ charge seemed intent on focussing his attentions on anything other than forward momentum.
Totally agree with OP that it was a tremendous ride and one that foreshadows a lengthy and successful career. At this stage, he looks nailed on for the Nicholls job.

Amen to that. I remember thinking he was a moral when turned out for The Topham a few weeks later but he was comfortably held. Never really seemed to progress from there and I’m presuming he’s had problems since.
A second wind hopefully. Jumps well.

April 17, 2014 at 21:05 #475964I would guess he’s had a few problems one way or another considering today was only his 7th race since the Sandown win in March 2011.

April 18, 2014 at 09:32 #475995It was a decent ride from Scholfield, who has been poor on many occasions recently.
The real praise has to go to Paul Nicholls, though. Although this was a lower grade than he would have hoped to get Mon Parrain winning at, he must be thrilled. Mon Parrain never stopped responding and stayed on heroically to get in front on the line. It is some achievement to get that attitude from a horse with a history of finishing very weakly.
April 18, 2014 at 09:51 #475998No arguing with it being an exciting race but not too sure what was so special about the ride?
I think Scholfield is just one of a number of weak-in-a-finish hold-up jockeys around at the moment. In my opinion he has a profile considerably above the level of his ability and I don’t see him as massively different to Jacob. In fact I would prefer Jacob as he is less one-dimensional.
April 18, 2014 at 10:17 #476002Yeah, I’m with you there Stilvi. Scholfield hasn’t impressed me at all lately and doesn’t seem like the best man for the big occasion.
Granted, some of his best rides have underperformed, but you have to question a man who can even get Teaforthree on the floor.
