With both Lance Betts (Hue) and Liam Treadwell (Pterodactyl) done for riding injudicious races recently it will be interesting to see what (if any) action is taken against Scholfield.
April 18, 2008 at 18:06 #158565Probably at Taunton as its closer to home so he can get some extra Zs depending if he goes to Ayr on Saturday.
April 18, 2008 at 18:43 #158571I believe Denman is parading at Taunton today (along with Comply Or Die) – that may be why PFN is there
April 18, 2008 at 19:27 #158582And I thought Mr Wall was easy on Twenty Degrees in the Hunter Chase at 7.30…dear, dear, dear, Mr Scholfield.
April 18, 2008 at 19:39 #158584He is chasing the injured Thomas Greenall for amateurs title as well.
Six behind last time I looked with eight days to go so if has upset PN that likely to be the end of his chances rather than getting several teed up for him next week.
April 18, 2008 at 23:02 #158619I believe he was suspended for 10 days for riding an ill-judged race.
April 19, 2008 at 08:35 #158655So, a young, inexperienced amateur is guilty of over-confidence — it happens.
For MP to suggest that this is comparable to some celebrated cases of skullduggery in the past is quite ridiculous.
April 19, 2008 at 08:53 #158662I think that in Paul Nicholls column on teletext he tipped Woolcombe Folly as his best chance of the day so he must be fuming.
I had heard that Comply or Die and Denman were parading at Taunton which would explain Paul Nicholls being there. I expect he will be at Ayr today.April 20, 2008 at 17:06 #158916And I thought Mr Wall was easy on Twenty Degrees in the Hunter Chase at 7.30…
In mitigation it should be pointed out that;
– Not without reason is Twenty Degrees – ridden as always in spurs on Friday – described in Mackenzie and Harris as “Quirky and cannot be trusted”, for all his gains in hunters’ chases and points,
– he generally needs dropping on the line, and only then if he feels like being dropped,
– Mark Wall hadn’t sat on Twenty Degrees under Rules before, nor, I’m pretty sure, in points – he got the gig after owner Michael Hawker removed the horse from Alison Dare (who could usually guarantee champion riders in the form of Polly Gundry, Julian Pritchard and Richard Burton) after the Cheltenham Festival and decided to have a bash at training himself.
I didn’t see too much wrong in the effort of the rider, given any or all of the above would have had to be factored in. Further, the going, which was borderline firm at Taunton, would have been far quicker that his optimum, whereas it was right up Machrihanish’s boulevard.

April 20, 2008 at 17:09 #158917I am not suggesting any connection here, but Schofield has been turned over on the likes of Armaturk and Thisthatandtother at odds as short as 1/8 on one occasion.
Armaturk has no pretensions of staying most hunters’ chase trips, and Richard Burton on Twenty Degrees completely out-thought Scholfield on TTAT at Fakenham.
