Ted Walsh and Johnny Franks talk sense… both served there time and talk sense you prove my piont as did the other mentioned.. Thanks
February 6, 2008 at 16:02 #140672Perhaps you would like to enlighten us as to how you would fill the time while ‘a lose horses was caught'(sic). It’s not that easy to talk off the cuff for a few minutes, filling time that would otherwise have had commentary.
Quite. The aforementioned Jonathan Neesom is frequently excellent at filling time in such instances, whether it be by toothcombing the form of horses yet further as required, or musing with Lydia on the quality of Mark Johnson’s Franglais.

February 6, 2008 at 16:03 #140674I think Luck is a failed "actor" not "singer", but there is a point here. A professional actor is likely to have a better grasp and delivery of the English language than your average ex-jockey or trainer.
His relaxed confidence in front of a camera was notable from when he first appeared on RUK, and this added to his rounded vowels would suggest a bash at treading the boards.
As for his ‘qualifications’ to present a racing programme I believe he comes from a ‘horsey’ background: his parents being breeders? and his brother an amateur rider?, hence he’s ‘grown up’ surrounded by horses. Which, together with his consummate professionalism is sufficient justification for him to work on RUK, in my opinion.
February 13, 2008 at 17:22 #142858I commented on how I disliked Nick Luck last summer and got slated funny how a short time later he has become so disliked. Are we just fickle or have people realised how annoying he is.
February 13, 2008 at 17:31 #142862Contrariwise, he filled the time effortlessly and authoritatively when faced with the delay / faffing about prior to the Kingmaker Chase on Channel 4’s coverage last weekend. I’m sure many lesser mortals would have floundered more quickly, if not entirely.
Mr Luck is never less than a consummate professional, to my mind, whatever the merits or otherwise of his tipping.

February 15, 2008 at 01:30 #143357I’m not sure some of you appreciate the difficulty of live tv.. Luck is pretty bloody good at what he does.. He’s not professing to be a pundit; merely expressing an opinion so people like us can disagree..
February 15, 2008 at 17:49 #143602You’ll never catch me slagging off thommo..

I never bet in corals so didn’t know that. I’m commenting on his channel 4 work mainly as I don’t have ruk
February 15, 2008 at 18:41 #143625Well KCC the difference is that you don’t pay for his tips but you do for Tommo’s. I really don’t understand this obsession with commentators giving tips. Are you incapable of making your own assessments? If so alternatively just take the RP selections or TheSun’s or dare I say rhe Daily Mail .The other option is just give backing horses altogether .Information ‘inside’ or otherwise is worthless at the end of the day it’s just someone else’s opinion no more no less and a sure way to lose money
February 15, 2008 at 19:38 #143636The trouble is, we’re all looking for different qualities in a presenter. Kwai is obviously looking for someone who can give him a good tip, I’m looking for a professional, well spoken, interesting and interested person who’s easy on the ear.
That’s Nick Luck. I don’t give a toss whether he’s an ex-jockey, and ex-actor or an ex-binman, he does the job beautifully.
February 16, 2008 at 12:04 #143776Seconded, BH.

Thirded, thrice.. (Is there such a word as thirded?!!!!)

February 17, 2008 at 14:48 #144152When all’s said and done, as with everything, it all boils down to personal preference. Some of you obviously dote on Nick Luck, I don’t.
February 17, 2008 at 18:25 #144207I am not looking for someone to give me a tip. I form my own judgements and make my own selections. I find the fact Luck tips favourites in Corals and gets paid for doing so rather unsavoury.
So are you suggesting that if a pundit is paid to make a selection in every race for example, he should avoid tipping favourites, even if it is a blindingly obvious selection?
February 17, 2008 at 20:01 #144260Nick Luck sounds even easier on the ear after a day full of Matt Chapman today on ATR. He gets worse. I’m sure he’s trying to be the new Big Mac.
February 17, 2008 at 20:13 #144265Is that him on ATR?
his comments today were disgraceful in my view
His comments – Directed to Mullins after the 410 race
please please please Willie………… bring Pomme Tiepy to Cheltenham……. are the Irish scared…………..Are the Irish scared or something……………Please Bring Pomme Tiepy to Cheltenham………after all she may not even be with us this time next year.
I am sure you will agree that a more reasoned and logical argument for running a horse at Cheltenham will be extremely difficult to come across!
