On the subject of New Little Bric, I think he’s an overhyped and poorly handicapped horse.

On the topic of Nicholls positive comments, I’ve decided I’m not going to let his comments affect my betting after having him contributing to putting me off Denman and Twist Magic due to his negativity regarding them!

If you look through New Little Bric’s form it’s not particularly worthy of a mark in the mid 140’s. I’ve backed him last twice in competitive handicaps and he’s not jumped fluently or at any time looked like winning those races.

On the flipside to that, the race Saturday doesn’t look particularly strong to me. Might chance a bit e.w on Copsale Lad in the first-time headgear.

Lets not forget Noland, Silverburn and any other novices he’s got up his sleeve… He may well have a couple of 150 rated novce chasers by the end of the season.

Not forgetting he unfortunately lost Granit Jack who was quite obviously going to be a 150+ chaser…

Ah! just been talking about Noland on another thread…….If what I was told was true there will be 4 names at the top of the list soon.

Kauto Star, Denman, Noland and Twist Magic and probably in that order.

    Time will tell

I think Paul Nicholls has been fairly vocal with regard to his hopes for Noland, FOF, even going back to March 2006.

When Big Buck’s ran at Newbury a couple of weeks ago I have to admit to being a little disappointed with the manner of his victory. He came over from France with one hell of a reputation and, for me, should have beaten Barber’s Shop (even though he is rated 136 over hurdles) far more authoritatively. But looking back through Noland’s form, who was similarly thought of prior to his debut at Wincanton, I notice he looked distinctly ordinary in finishing 3rd on his first attempt over hurdles. Taking that into account, Big Buck’s looks another destined to take high rank amongst the novices this season (given adequate time to acclimatise and so on).

Incidentally, does anyone know why we haven’t seen Noland’s (hurdling) debut conqueror, Russian Around, since?

I just watched a recording of that race……….was under a bit of pressure a long way out but looked as green as a cabbage (jumped the last like a belly flopper)…. but boy did he gallop up that hill……can see now what the man was talking about…. he’s got top class written all over him.

Just as well he’s been sidelined or we might have three 5/4 shots J fav for the Gold Cup

Btw, Nicholls said in interview after the Tingle Creek that Twist Magic would be put away until the Game Spirit – do you think he’d forgotten that the Victor Chandler has been changed from a handicap to a Grade 1?

    AP

After finishing runner-up to Jack The Giant at Kempton last Christmas, Twist Magic was rested until the Arkle (fell 2 out when travelling well), and I’m guessing that Nicholls wants to keep him relatively fresh for Cheltenham. He may also have a crystal ball that tells him Ascot’s Victor Chandler Chase meeting will be called off after three inspections.

He probably will have something else in the race didn’t Saintsaire run in that when it was a handicap? Could be his target

Has Thisthatandtother dropped below 150 now?

Thisthatandtother is rated 155 but is going hunter chasing this season.

    What about Star De Mohaison?

Is he still on course to make a re-appearance?
