If like me, you’re planning to attend some of this meeting, note changes to the running order, which I only spotted this morning.
The original rather dull Tuesday card has been moved to Thursday, and the other two days moved forward one day. So the Nell Gwyn and Earl of Sefton are on Tuesday, the Craven and Abernant on Wednesday.
April 9, 2025 at 22:10 #1726805Thanks for the heads up ap
I was all set to go on Thursday for The Craven Stakes and now reading your post. realise they’ve changed it around leaving the Thursday as a non Premier Race day that I pressume won’t be televised.
I’m now going to have to go on The Tuesday for the Nell Gwyn and Earl Of Sefton as I look after my granddaughters on a Wednesday, but my friend who was coming racing with me may not now be able to make the change of day because of work commitments.Craven Stakes Thursday has always been my day of choice for this meeting and I feel the traditional day to run The Craven…it’s going to feel a bit strange with the Craven Meeting petering out on a Thursday with no Premier race.
I love The Nell Gwyn so I”m fine with going on the Tuesday but because of the changes my friend may be unable to make it.
Hope you enjoy the Meeting ap whichever day you choose to go, let’s hope we get some nice pointers towards the Guineas a few weeks later..
I can’t wait to be there again. Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 9, 2025 at 22:48 #1726807Thanks for the info, why can’t they leave things alone?
I used to go regularly to this meeting, sometimes all three days.
Not sure whether I will be there to be honest as everything revolves around my hospital appointments, which are not at regular intervals but depend on my blood counts.
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysApril 10, 2025 at 00:25 #1726814Hope you manage to make a day or two between hospital checks purwell and agree they should leave things alone.

Ap..I don’t suppose you know when it was decided to make these changes but quite a few people would have pre booked hotel accommodation for this meeting and I know how fully booked the local hotels get on racing days. I can imagine many now wanting to cancel their Wednesday/Thursday bookings for Tuesday/Wednesday and encountering problems…nightmare.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 10, 2025 at 06:26 #1726818I intend to be at Cheltenham next Wednesday, for free courtesy of RTV. At least I will be able to watch the Craven and the other races on the big screen or in the racecourse betting shop, although I would have preferred to have watched them at home on Thursday.
April 10, 2025 at 07:51 #1726821It appears to be a change based on coverage by ITV. They are showing Tuesday and Wednesday, the latter shared with Cheltenham. But there’s no program on Thursday, which means the all mares day at Cheltenham has fallen out of favour with ITV.
Jac,
I’m fairly sure that when I looked at the program book a month ago before booking my accommodation, the schedule was the same as it has been for many years past. I only noticed the switch when the entries for Tuesday were showing on the Racing Admin website yesterday.
As we all know, racecourses will always put terrestrial TV pictures ahead of the interests of their paying customers.
April 10, 2025 at 08:56 #1726823Thanks for clarifying that Ap and wonder how many people have booked the wrong days overnight stay for the Craven Stakes.
I can’t understand ITV not showing Mares Day on Thursday when they already have cameras at Cheltenham.Cork have a great Wednesday at Cheltenhsm and enjoy the Craven on the big screen..Hope there are more than 7 runners this year.
I”m now in Newmarket mode and gearing up for a great first day. Love the atmosphere when the course opens up for the first day of the season, meeting old friends and getting together at the pre parade to check out the seasons hopefuls old and new heading out on their journey possibly to Group success.
I know Newmarket’s not everyones cup of tea but it’s my favourite track and the racecourse where I get the chance to see top horses before they go on to become Group winners.🏆
To be honest I think I prefer the Nell Gwyn to the Craven Stakes so the change of day means I will get to see some top class fillies and possibly the 1000 Guineas winner.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 10, 2025 at 09:33 #1726825Jac,
They won’t have any cameras or staff at Cheltenham on Wednesday. They’re only showing two races and they’ll use the SIS pictures and racecourse commentary for those.
April 10, 2025 at 09:56 #1726826Oh of course they will..lol🤭
Showing my age..
🤣Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 10, 2025 at 10:46 #1726827This change was notified over 4 months ago, so those within the industry should have been well aware, but not sure how widely it was promulgated to the general public.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
April 10, 2025 at 12:03 #1726832Old repeats of The Saint, Magnum, Kojak & Minder on the Thursday. Maybe there was a technical issue that prevented them being shown on the Tuesday.

April 10, 2025 at 12:24 #1726839ITV probably wanted a day to set-up at Newcastle on the Friday – apparently there’s racing taking place on Good Friday. I won’t be watching, zero interest in the artificial stuff. Nice to have a days break, unfortunately the weather doesn’t look great for next Friday at the moment.

April 14, 2025 at 21:21 #1727274Looks like Newmarket may get some overnight rain but tomorrow morning’s rain could possibly skirt to the east of the racecourse

Bin above! latest map looks different
Any local weather reports welcome Tuesday

They were based at Musselburgh
April 18, 2025 at 18:52 #1727594Sounds like ITV were only marginally more interested than I was, but does explain why they wanted the Newmarket days switched.
Anyway, weather was very good in the end, so 5 hours of litter picking achieved today.

April 18, 2025 at 22:58 #1727607Thursday’s Newmarket card ended up looking more than a little threadbare quality wise to me – could we see the Craven meeting in the future be condensed down into a two day affair rather than three?
