Should be a new thread
There is who one would want and who it is likely to be
For me the two overlap and increasingly I think sunak will win this. He’s extremely smart and flexibly minded but also simply a great communicator and seemingly very nice decent guy too. Can have the necessary harD edge too
Even despite his missteps he’s still the leading candidate with the public
No candidate is perfect and I also believe javid and hunt are strong.
Mordant and sgt bilko are good communicators too and their stances are reasonable t9 me but they just fall short imo
July 8, 2022 at 08:45 #1605887The only one I want to win is Wallace because I joined in the gamble on Betfair yesterday.
If they stick to the process of presenting two names to the party membership and he makes it onto the ticket, then he has a good chance of winning because he frequently tops the popularity poll amongst the membership.
I would support anyone who I thought would do something different but all I can see is a lot of people who will continue with the same policies.
July 8, 2022 at 08:56 #1605889I’m not sure but I think I read that this may not go to the members
Quite right too. Look at labour
Memberships are overrun by nutters.
July 8, 2022 at 09:29 #1605890I don’t care who it is as long as they bin Dorries, Patel and Rees Mogg.
And scrap the sick Rwanda scheme and the law breaking reneging of the NI protocol which has worked out well for most businesses in the province.
July 8, 2022 at 09:37 #1605891I’d like it to be Tom Tugendhat, the only centrist there.
It’s more likely to be one of the right-wing loons; Wallace, probably.
July 8, 2022 at 09:39 #1605892I see penny in a swimsuit is finding it’s way into the press. And no wonder. Very fetching
That’s where ann widdecombes campaign went wrong. All she needed was a Readers Wives pose with a carrot in the morning papers
Not sure many breakfasts would have stayed down though

Under the headline “Prime minist-phwoar!!!” no doubt.
July 8, 2022 at 09:49 #1605894Early days but Tugenhat has already received the backing of several MPs.
10 on Betfair was too big to resist.
July 8, 2022 at 10:01 #1605895I always thought Mordaunt was a bit of a lightweight – but I did enjoy this perfectly pitched slap down of Angela Rayner. Notice how Ange has to put a mask on half way through.
Before anyone says anything, I quite like Rayner and think the Labour Party should have more people of her background in its leadership. But she was second best this day:
July 8, 2022 at 10:08 #1605896Good to see Penny and Angela getting it on… Or would be
So long as Widdecome doesn’t ruin it all but demanding to join in with her carrot
July 8, 2022 at 10:15 #1605898I think you were right in your thinking that Mordaunt is a lightweight, that speech was doublespeak from beginning to end.

Undeniably attractive though she is, Mordaunt would not be for me.
If I was a Tory member I’d want the chance to vote for Tungendhat as this is the most corrupted and tainted Cabinet in living memory and to win in 2024 they need someone not associated with it.
And moderate – it’s the Blairs/Camerons who win elections mostly.

July 8, 2022 at 10:58 #1605910It’s in the eye of the beholder, Gladders.
Penny is comfortably the most attractive despicable Tory politican I’ve ever seen.
And as for Angela – goddess!
