Is this not a step backwards? We’ve had several years already of ladies only races and now they’ve proved they can hold their own amongst the men so why bother with something like this.
It’s always been my view that if you’re good enough you can succeed without having to have a special category made for you to fit into. However, I recognise that the ladies only races have helped to get women more noticed in the die hard men only racing world of old. But those days are past us now (I sincerely hope). Women jockeys have fought hard to be recognised and accepted as equals in their chosen field and now some idiot comes up with yet another ladies only thing.
This just prolongs the impression that women jockeys aren’t really riders, but we’ll kid them along to keep them from complaining.
Our women jockeys don’t need this, they need/want to race as equals based on merit and ability.

March 26, 2012 at 19:50 #398491a totally pointless gimmick.
Do they want to be treated on an equal footing or not?
Can’t have it both ways.
March 26, 2012 at 20:34 #398493They ain’t mugs, they would be to turn down 5 grand if someones offering it.
The mugs will be the ones giving publicity to it. Weaver, Mapletoft, Chapman & Co will give plenty of airtime to it I would imagine, they like championships and get very excited by them.
