It’s here- err no it’s not just three jumps meetings and guess what no flat!
You couldn’t make it up!
March 30, 2015 at 08:40 #870834It is a bit ridiculous. The Lincoln meeting on Saturday then we have to wait until the middle of April till the Craven meeting for the next half decent turf action in the UK.
Almost as ridiculous as a jockeys championship with half the races taken out of the equation.
We really do have some muppets running the sport.
March 30, 2015 at 20:42 #870956The start of the flat is pretty ridiculous with very little time before we hit the classics then Chester and royal ascot. I don’t know how they rearrange the calendar but it’s just not right at the moment.
March 30, 2015 at 22:08 #871003Well that’s better then a delightful AW meeting at sandpit Southwell and 2 jumps meetings
March 31, 2015 at 09:23 #871198The Flat fire-up has always spluttered; it just splutters rather more qiuetly nowadays
As the 2015 Lincoln Meeting marked the 20th anniversary of my subscription to Computer Timeform – money haemorrhaged, lessons learnt, a fab journey, still got a roof over my head – it is perhaps interesting to dust off the cobwebbed database and compare 1995’s splutter with 2015’s fart

Saturday 8th Grand NationalThe Craven Meeting began on the 18th
Three blessed days at Donny then not much; and you haters-of-the-code may care to note the crafty infiltration of AW, with two of the above days AW only
There’s been many a thread on TRF instigated around now concerning the dire start of the Flat. One would have thought matters would have improved with various assemblages of acronyms having faffed around with the fixture list. Nope all they’ve done is fked-up the fixed and bggred-up the broke
At least the ‘Easter moveable feast’ problem is no more, with a good card at Musselburgh on Friday. Onwards and upwards…
April 1, 2015 at 08:18 #871456In 1995 there were far more flat turf meetings than now at the start of the season.
7 in the first 7 days racing in 1995. Just two (one on the first day of the flat turf season and one six days later) in 2015. That is a huge difference.
Wouldn;t it make more sense to move the Lincoln neeting to the weekend after the Grand National and for Musselburgh to stage jumps action on Good Fridays?
Interesting, the Irish flat turf season-opening meeting at the Curragh seems to have arirved later this year than in the past. They normally start the season befor the UK but it was the same weekend this year.
